thanks Bruce I have no idea what grade it is but it does anneal ok.  It's 1.2mm thick so thereabouts .050

I hadn't thought of the m'plate flexing.   I'll give it a go without the m'plate in place and see if I can get the corners pulled in with the dolly, thanks for the advice.

Did the final fix on the two small header leaks today.(pzzz pzzzzzzz) Rainy now so no road test today.

some folks will do anything to shave 2.5 lbs.
Before
After still some clean up work to do and polishing. Differance was about 1.25 lbs per caliper. Lots of work for 2.5 lbs but no cost and its weight I DON'T have to carry down the track.

nope get one dbl cheese per 50 lbs saved. So another 47.5 pounds I can get one.Problem then I fill guilty about spending the money all $1.25 of it.

Ran the rail for many minutes. Allowed it to come to full temp (160F) and it will sit and idle easily after the initial 1 1/2 to2 minutes (once it gets by the carb icing moments and everything gets wet inside the carbs). Over the years I have found that is a pretty good indicator we are on the right track. I currently have 72 jets installed, 5.0 power valves and 28 shooters. New headers and intake have quite a bark to them and an old racer friend who was hear to get me to weld a busted Aluminum head was sure I had done a camshaft upgrade but I haven't cause there is no upgrade from this one. It has quite a strong note and if sound counted for anything it would be good. Another FED pilot was by later and said" it sounds like you added the other two cylinders." Hopefully I will gain something from all this work but time will tell.
I suppose I could video a cackle and post it. Going to lube the linkage pivot points today and see if I cant make it a bit easier..

Meanwhile here at the ranch I dragged it outside and set about tuning. About 2 oclock I did a Rocky Philips style performance test. Car staged easily. I took it to 4000 Stall and turned it loose. Power came on smooth and strong without any hint of difficulty. Probably good to go.

Your right, does not sound like a six. Sounds like an 8!

Ran at Indy last night, first time track this season, first time for the rebuilt engine, first burnout, broke the belt that drives the fuel pump.

I had a spare, replaced it, second attempt at the track ran a 8.17, trying for 8.00 index, was very fat.

Track closed before a third attempt could be made.

Today drove to Madison Illinois, Gateway Motorsports Park, We have a NDRL race here this weekend.
