Sprint Mag II enough?
« on: June 04, 2015, 07:40:29 AM »
While I am rebuilding my motor I am thinking about going to a mag as the last time out I had a ignition box go out.  I have a buddy local to me who has a sprint mag II tach drive, coil, kill switch and a tach for $600.  The mag has not been used since being gone through years ago at Mallory (which used to be local to me) and has been sitting in its case.  My question is this enough mag for 565 injected BBC?
thanks
Scott

If it's naturally aspirated or supercharged up to about 8 PSI boost or so, it'll work great!

Spud, thanks for the quick reply.  Yes it is on a N/A car around 16:1 compression.  I also just got another call on a supermag II with coil and tach drive.

What would be the better choice?

A Mag III is your best bet for the money general purpose magneto- and will carry enough power to light anything within our level of index racing, blown alc or inj nitro. Plenty of spares in the pits if somthing stupid should happen.

Given the choice, a Super-Mag would be better for you.

The parts are interchangeable between Super-Mags and Sprintmags including the units themselves. If you did run a Sprintmag, there'd be plenty of spares in the pits that would work fine for you.
