Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / oil heater
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:44:14 AM »
what are the thoughts on an Oil heater on a wet sump system?  Or does a simple drive around the pits or on stands cover this?  only running a straight up alchol stack injection on a small chevy.

I was looking at a pad or better yet the immersion type.  I have also heard of a magnet style but can't locate.

Front Engine Dragsters / Fuel Door
« on: February 13, 2014, 07:02:38 AM »
We are finishing up the fit of the front fiberglass body and need some ideas on adding a fuel fill door.  I have been looking at glueing in an auto door from a jeep liberty.  they are round with an all plastic hinge, ring and door.  Any thoughts.  love to see photos.

my thought would be a plate at least between the 2 seat bars.  similar to a door plate on a roundie round car.

I like the idea of the clevis instead of the side saddle mounted rod end, especially pointing at my back.    Thanks for all the input.

good point on the balancer, Bruce.  Should I have a mag shut off on the back?

I agree the colors look nice.  I will keep you posted.  So Glenn are you saying you powder coat on the side?

I would expect it just won't apply, but a good friend of mine had to put a battery disconnect on his fed to satisfy the tech guy "because the rules said you had to have one" even though he didn't have a battery on the car.

Roo Man's Room / wheelie bars
« on: February 06, 2014, 11:25:21 AM »
Not planning to run wheelies, but if I find the need I would like to have the mounts on before painting.  would anyone share photos of what they have done.  I am looking at a 3 bar design the would have 2 bottom bars and 1 top bar.  I am concerned however if a bar were to break it would come through my back.  thoughts?

yes it is sleeved.  you can see the plug weld in this photo on the right upper rail inside.  Yes I am going to run Super Comp.  What thought is why not?  Bring a Front Engine to the big National Show, so what if I go out first round.   Maybe get some people thinking and scratching their head.  especially the door guys with a bunch of coin in their motors to go slower.  Oh and mostly have fun.  I also like the thumbs up from the older generation.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: SIZE OF THE OIL TANK
« on: February 06, 2014, 08:29:07 AM »
requirement is for a 1 gallon oil puke.  I made mine closer to 2.25 and it really isn't that big.  10.25x4.25x12.

I run 6 quarts of oil and on the top half of the motor is there any more than a quarter of water and since I am not running a water pump I can't see getting more than a pint any way.  So I would guess in reality on a non blown motor only going to puke 5 quarts oil and a pint of water.  And with that a bigger chance the oil pan gets a hole and it goes down to the catch pan.  Just my newbie thoughts.  And yes I over thought it as well.  :D

Looking through the NHRA spec and there is a requirement for the balancer to be SFI rated 18.1 mandatory.  So what happens If I don't have a balancer.  since my motor was in a sprint car it is setup with a KSE gear drive and the crank snout drove a water pump.  I am not running pump so I just blocked off the adapter and run it like that.  Will I have a problem with Tech on this.

Hi there DusterDave,

I have a Worm car as well and love it and have 4 shows planned to hit this summer, including the US Nationals and Yes I am a beginner to the Fed world.  Looking at your car with the 4 bars across the back you have the same chassis as mine and as you got it from John it will cert to 6.0.  So no worries either and if you take care on welding it will run straight as an arrow.  PM me I would love to chat on your project directly as well.  Maybe we can feed each other a little.
