So far so good...I think I found one of the problems last night...I had an 8000RPM race "chip" in MSD, car flattened out the last 200 feet, I think I was on the chip that distance.  Didn't look at tach, but calculations say engine was at 8500 or so.

Finally got car out today at Maple Grove (Reading) got two time runs during regular bracket program.  First pass "Check out pass" 8.17 / 132 dumping at 1000'.  Car hard on the wheelie bar...even with motor out that far...made bar adjustment. Second pass 7.645 / 174.87.  Lost .02 in 60' raising wheelie bar?  6.0 lbs in 2585's on 12" rim.  Two-Step at 4200.  I think it has more in there...need to fine tune a few things.  Video to follow.

This seems to be an unclear topic with NHRA. I have a FED that where the tranny is separated from the driver by a bulkhead / firewall.  I thought I could use a -5 suit, then NHRA tells me because I'm sitting behind the rear housing, I need a -15 suit.

For those running the D2585 on a 12" rim at race pressure, what clearance is "safe" between body panel and slick surface?

Picked up my body panels and had a persuading conversation with the painter...was able to reduce the bill by $700.  Every little bit helps...

Spud Miller's Cave / Mystery Solved But Not Sure Why
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:04:42 PM »
I mentioned my dilemma on the main forum a few months back, but wanted to report on Spuds forum.  My combo is not injected, but is a 422" SBC with a HRE sheet metal intake and a dominator.  Engine ran great on the dyno, then bolted into frame and engine won't idle.  I've been chasing the problem for months, I completely changed all of the Mallory HyFire VII ignition to MSD 7AL3 to match the dyno setup (no change).  Checked and re-checked all wiring in the chassis and re-checked entire fuel system, purchased a new carburetor, nothing worked.  Today, I took off the 2" up-style zoomies and installed the exact down style collector headers (borrowed from engine builder) that were used on the dyno, presto...the engine runs like a champ...idles perfect.  Anybody have an idea why the zoomies don't work?  I forgot to mention I also have a vacuum pump system pulling 12 Hg.  The carb would never get on the idle circuit, you had to keep hitting the squirters to keep it running.
