Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Fuel leaking from nozzle air bleed hole
« on: June 21, 2016, 05:31:42 PM »
Are you getting a small weep from the nozzles after the motor dies or are you getting a stream?

Mine weeps a couple of drops or so and that's because the amount it weeps was not enough to keep the motor running so it weeps out. A quick test would be to have someone feed the motor with the squirt bottle for a few seconds after you shut off the fuel. The motor should scavenge the remaining fuel in the lines so there shouldn't be any weeping afterwards.

Good luck

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: battery disconnect with mag kill
« on: January 25, 2016, 07:46:13 PM »
From 2015 HRHS rule book:
Quote
8:4 MASTER CUTOFF
Mandatory when battery is relocated, or as outlined in Class Requirements. An electrical
power cutoff switch (one only) must be installed on the rearmost part of each vehicle and
be easily accessible from outside the car body. This cutoff switch must be connected to the
positive side of the electrical system and must stop all electrical functions including
magneto ignition. The off position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.” If switch is
“push/pull” type, “push” must be the action for shutting off the electrical system, “pull” to
turn it on. Any rods or cables used to activate the switch must be minimum 1/8-inch
diameter. Plastic or keyed switches prohibited. Switches and/or controls must be located
behind rear wheels on rear-engine dragsters.
I use a relay to kill the mag when power is off.

Thanks for the comments but until it's finished, it's a clunker.

I was there with my clunker in NE-1, maybe next time we can meet.

Cant understand with the 100's and 100's of units sold for the last 30+ years why you are the only one having issues.
I don't think the gear drive is the culprit, the manufacturing of the gears should make everything pretty concentric, I'm in belief that the harmonics were already there but the roller  chain absorbed most of it, how do the bearings look?

The Milodon is solid also, the adjustment is made by the complete unit thru the mounting bolts to the block.

So who makes this unit?

I have a System 1 -16 fuel filter that flows 28 gpm located between my tank and pump and it has worked great for me, here's a link http://www.system1filters.com/fuelfilters.htm, scroll down to the bottom of the page and look at P/N 203-229416.

If the plugs are washing out then you're priming too much. Take the plugs out and spin the motor to clean out the cylinders then I normally spray the plugs with brake cleaner, blow them dry then re-install them.

Mine's a blown application and my fire up procedure is to open the fuel shut off, spin the motor for oil pressure, give it a good single squirt then try to fire it which it normally does right away. My car is self-starting so opening the fuel shut off before building up the oil pressure is important.

Is the pump above or below the fuel tank fuel level? My fuel pump is below the normal fuel level so the pump inlet line gets filled as soon as I put fuel in the tank. If you're self-starting and the pump is above the normal fuel level, it may take longer to get fuel into the pump.

Is the fuel shut off open? Sounds like a silly question but I've done it before.

You say you're getting spark, have you checked the ignition timing? I've been known to try and start my motor with the mag 180 degrees off, it didn't fire.

Does the motor start then die or just nothing?

Altereds / Re: What did you do on your Altered TODAY?
« on: June 27, 2015, 08:29:46 AM »
Modified floor pan for altered today to suit deep pan of powerglide. I was thinking of making a full length floor pan to catch any fluids from engine / fuel tank etc. What do others think / currently use. My current floor runs from rear of engine back. Glen
I did the same thing to mine, just a little deeper. I ended up adding at the front edge 3 sloped 1x1x1/8 aluminum angle to strengthen it and keep the front edge from catching anything like my trailer floor when loading the car.

I'm currently going through my licensing process and on a couple of runs, I was told by track officials that a run would not count because I pedaled the car when it got sideways due to bad track, apparently it's better to cross the centerline or crash than letting up on a license pass, who would have thought?

Altereds / Re: front end wobble
« on: June 07, 2015, 05:25:15 PM »
To me, a wobble at speed is a result of something going bad, I would check all attachment points, i.e. heim joints, and make sure everything is tight. Also, I would check each mounted front wheel for run out and balance, and, that there is sufficient toe in although that would make the car wander and should not cause a wobble.

Good luck and keep us informed as to what you find, you just might be helping someone else out.

I had a leak in my deep cast pan as well, talked to Hughes and they told me check the pan flatness and if need be, use RightStuff sealant as it is trans fluid resistant. Pan was indeed out-of-flat, filed it flat, and used RightStuff now no leaks.

A friend of mine has a cackle car and he's had to upgrade his valvetrain and rotating assembly but he runs 98% and has probably the largest flames of all the cackle cars I've seen.
