Title: Frame recert.
Post by: Pipe Dreams on April 25, 2014, 04:13:08 AM
Any one having any trouble with getting their car recertified?  Just had mine done and have to add a couple bars to the cage. I guess feds are getting to popular so the powers that be are updating the rules for chassis cert.  Just wanted to give peple a headsup if you need to recert soon. Would'nt have really cared about anding the bars to mine if I had'nt just spent a grand on striping and repowder coated the frame.

What "bars" are you refering to? what spec ?  has the car ever been tagged before or when was the last time it was?
Any having to do with changing or adding to the cage has been around in the specs for 8+ years---nothing new has been added and a sportsman tag is only good for 3 years.

Why should NHRA accept any other santioning???
SFI is a NHRA loophole created for its own protection.

My car was checked but not tagged about 6-7 years ago. The bars were added but the car was never finished due to slow shops. I am curious as someone else said what bars were needed to re-cert? Pics of before and after please.

Only bars added to basic spec. for cars that needed a cert---

1" x .058  helmet bars around the cage
Foward roll bar hoop uprite for any old car that does not have an interior reinforcment sleeve inside the shoulder hoop foward of the front hoop to behind the foward seat uprite with visible rosett weld indicating placement. All new construction must have sleeve.

Both of these items have been around for many spec reserts

My car was built in 2003 and to my knowledge there have been no changes at all!

Our local IHRA track does not accept NHRA. I have NHRA as the races I travel to are NHRA, so I have both

Thanks Glen, I posted that to give everyone racing with the NDRL a heads up that all tracks that the NDRL race at were  NHRA and a IHRA cert may not be accepted,  Mr. Bruce must of interpreted  differently ;D ;D ;D

we just had our car NHRA re-certed 1 week ago with no problems at all, car built in 2008.

locally we have both NHRA and IHRA tracks and it has always been the common rule for us that IHRA WILL accept NHRA but not the other way around.

Our home track changed from NHRA to IHRA this year, same deal.

My car was certed for 7.50.  3 yrs agoso had to havea recert done and was told that the front two bars of the cage are not laided back far enough ( can' t remember if  he sad the bars needed to be at 22 or 25 degrees) so I have to add a couple of diagonals in the corners of the cage to the top frame loop.
Does'nt affect me,but was also told if the car would have been a 6.0 cert that I would need to add kidney bars from the rearend upright mounts all theway around the back of the car. Which would have made it impossible to remove the rearend.
Just wanted to let you guys know what I had heard so no one has any trouble recerting their cars
