making some parts choices and was wondering how many use low gear in a glide and break and how many use high gear only and foot brake it??? thanks jeff
-
I'm currently using low gear and a brake at the line.
I need to drop .25 seconds to run an 8.5 index, might consider foot brake and high gear launch.
I have several other stratiges I'm going to try first.
I do not want to lose the trans brake as I think it adds to consistency.
Just my two cents.

Trans gets very hot with high gear only

i would think so but there is some doing this..thanks for your input..any one else ?

I think that you need the gear reduction to get a decent launch and good 60' times. This is about the
most important part of a run. The trans brake is insurance at the start line to keep from rolling the
lights and going red. You do not have to leave at full throttle just because you have a trans brake.
Find the best RPM for launching your car. It varies alot with power, weight, tires, converter, etc.
A 2-step is handy if your rules allow it.

I would agree with these guy's . Unless you are making a ton of power it's not going to be very fast at all. You are also going to put a severe amount of heat into the converter .

I'm glad someone asked this question. I just put the blower on my car and haven't changed rear end gears. It's a 8 3/4 diff with 4.88 gears. Worked great with a mild 350 but I'm figuring it will be a bit much (understatement 8)) with the addition of the blower and alky.

Start with about a 4.11. Should probably keep RPMs under 7500 - 8000 till you learn more about
your combination.

Mine a Pontiac, so it is out there, 461 CID launch at 4500, rear is 3:70 tires are 31 tall run 8.250 at 157 in the quarter 11 pounds of boost
-
I launch off of the brake at 6400 RPMs. From the videos I have, the front tires touch the ground around 200' out. My 60' times are range between 1.02-1.06.

I think I had an A1 trans brake on my old powerglide. It would work in 1st or 2nd gear. When I screwed up and left in 2nd gear(on trans break), my ET was surprisingly very close to the same thing . Just extremely hot after the pass.
