Spud Miller's Cave / Enderle Pump I.D. help
« on: December 21, 2020, 02:20:22 PM »
I was looking for something in my collection the other day and came across a new Enderle 80A I had stashed.

Problem is no paperwork and it is not stamped with a size.

Can anyone tell me what the idler gear width is on a 80A-1 so I can determine the size of this one?

Mine measures .601" wide.

Thanks!

Guys

What are the lightest front and rear wheels?

17x2.25" fronts and either 15"x10" or 15"x12" rears.

New or Old.

Spud Miller's Cave / FIE Rev-Limit Relay

You may have addressed this before, and if so, forgive me.

Can your Rev-Limit relay as you have it wired in the attached .jpg, be used as a two-step?

If you wired the 12v supply to both the Rev-Limit relay and the MSD 8950 thru either a separate button switch or your trans-brake button, wouldn't it act as a two step?

Roo Man's Room / Engine Placement in Altered/Funny Car Chassis
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:55:59 AM »
How far out and what crankshaft angle/ground clearance are typical for the average altered chassis.

I know many Alky cars have the engine out 67"+ but not sure what crank centerline is, up, zero or down.

The Mark Williams F/C print has the engine out 63" and the centerline at the front of the crank is 10 1/4" from the ground, which would be down in the front. Chassis ground clearance is 3 1/2".

The S&W altered print has the engine out 62 1/4" and centerline at the front of the crank is 13 5/16" from the ground which would be zero. Frame ground clearance is 4 1/2".

Any input is appreciated.

Spud Miller's Cave / Q.D. coupler used for Primer Bottle
« on: May 25, 2017, 06:25:42 AM »
On injected fuel motors, many use a bottle or box to start the engine on Alky then switch over to fuel once warm.

What quick disconnect coupler do they use between the bottle and the distribution block?

Brand and/or size?

See attached borrowed photo.

Spud Miller's Cave / Port Nozzle Design

Anyone familiar with this port nozzle holder design?

The square cuts are on both sides and they vent up into where the nozzle screws in.

Spud Miller's Cave / Super Mag V

Is an older Super Mag V that was souped up to 7+ amps with dual capacitors and has the old MSD cap adapter worth running.

It would need the rotation changed for my application and I assume it has the older points.

Spud Miller's Cave / Volumetric Eff. % of an Engine
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:49:14 AM »
Spud

How do you decide the V.E. % of an engine?

The injected fuel engine I am putting together is 358 c.i. ex-Nascar engine. 410 cfm on intake, 300 on exhaust, titanium intakes, inconol exhaust, roller cam & bearings, Jesel valvetrain & belt drive, so I assume it will be higher than 105 VE.

Computing the the fuel flow numbers can change quite a bit when I change the VE % and I am not sure what value to input.

Thanks again

Spud Miller's Cave / Transmission Gear Ratio

Spud

I know you run a Powerglide, but if you were to run a Crowerglide and Lenco 2 speed, what ratio would you start with on your combo?

I have 1.31, 1.44 and 1.56 available to me.

And given those options, would you still run the 2.91 rear gear or.....?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Cam Driven Oil Pump
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:23:12 PM »
The sprint car guys run the oil pump off of the front of the cam. You can also run a fuel pump off of the front of the oil pump.

Some say this transfers harmonics to the valve train and transfer heat to the fuel pump.

Whatcha think?

The reason I ask is my block has no provisions for an oil pump and I would like to do a crank mounted starter on a A/fuel deal. (removable)

I really don' t want to do a dry sump, rather a single stage wet sump and a belt drive pump would probably be in the way of the starter set-up.

Spud Miller's Cave / Mag Advance/Retard Set-up

Question on your Mag Advance/Retard set-up.

When you activate it, does it hit all at once or do you have an air bleed to bring it in slowly?
