Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Chassis - paint, powdercoat or POR?
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:54:07 PM »
Chrome moly is not prone to rust--the pro cars are just wiped down with oil or wd40 or whatever--You will have to fix cracks and add brackets etc  You will--no way around it--I painted mine with acrylic enamel but if I did another would wipe her down and go  Grinding off POR or powdercoat sounds crazy to me--they flex they crack just no two ways about it--if you run a season or two and can't find a crack you did not look hard enough--find--weld-smile-keep rolling

I always made it a point to not do the half track show off burn out--I would toast them Stop--then ease back slow with the help of someone that really really knows about being in the right spot on the track--the "groove" is Critical to the entire run--learning exactly where that is--and having a back up person that truly understands exactly where that is is a must--stop short on burn out --back up slow with a seasoned helper--you will still be a minute ahead if not more of the show off--and chances are you will hook and they will not
Most miss the sweet spot by a foot because they don't know what they are shooting for--ask a professional racer to educate you on what to look for at the starting line.
care at that point will reward you more than you can imagine

I played with it--Just keep your nice visual look--shorter stubby do make top end --but in our league not worth giving away the cool look of stacks--tiny gains at our level IMO  --from the cockpit  I love to see the "frost " on the tubes beside the fire coming out the headers
Have fun!
