Roo Man's Room / Hydraulic Clutch.
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:57:35 PM »
I noticed in a lot of early pictures that I research, 59-61 front engine dragsters, a fair number of them used a hydraulic cylinder to operate the Hilborn injector on their GMC blower. Did anyone ever use a hydraulic clutch setup during this period. Thanks Charles.

Roo Man's Room / Re: Which Flywheel, Clutch, Presure Plate
« on: June 10, 2016, 04:00:02 PM »
I am planning on buying what I need. Not ever having restored a FED, or any type of race car I searched old literature but was thinking someone here might tell me what would work best. Which flywheel, pressure plate and clutch would work the best. As far as doing "some burnouts" I can do burnouts at my shop anytime I want, I don't have to get anyone's permission.

Roo Man's Room / Which Flywheel, Clutch, Presure Plate
« on: June 10, 2016, 01:37:31 PM »
I am finishing my 1960 FED build. It is going to be a direct drive with just a clutch. It has a 283 bored .125, stroked 1/2 inch, 6-71 GMC Blower, Hilborn 2 port on gas. I am using an early Ansen MT scatter shield. I'm going to use a Tilton starter to start it, instead of a blower starter. The car will only be used to start and do some short burn outs. Which Clutch, pressure plate and flywheel would suit this the best. Thank you Charles.

Wanted to buy / 500 Dollars
« on: April 06, 2016, 07:49:52 AM »
Looking for an original picture. 1959-60 96 inch wheelbase Dragmaster Dragster. It was found 43 years ago in San Luis Obispo complete minus engine. It looks to have been black all it's life? It is a right hand steer which will help identify the car, with what looks to be a home made butterfly style steering wheel. Still has a few identifying performance decals that are original to the car. It may have ran a Potvin blower at one time, maybe. I will pay $500.00 for an identifying picture that will help with the restoration. 806 341 0348, or 806 374 8901. dragmastercja@outlook.com  I can e-mail picture of dragster this far if someone needs them. Thanks Charles.

Hay "dreracecar" that information was what I needed. I appreciate the time you spent and the information it provided. I've not been on my computer for awhile, got on to see if there was an update to my question and this is perfect. Thanks a lot for your help, sorry for the delay in my response. Thanks again Charles.

I have no pictures of the car I'm restoring from 1960. It's a Dragmaster MKIV. Pictures from that time period show cars with and without chutes. So I was wondering when it became a mandated rule for cars over 150mph. I've seen a few early pictures that had fuel shutoff's on gas cars, since the engine could be turned off by switching off the ignition, would the fuel shut off had just been a precaution. Were fuel shutoff's for gas cars mandated by NHRA, and if so does anyone know what year.

Roo Man's Room / What year parachute, and fuel shut off mandatory

What year did parachutes, and fuel shutoff's for FED's become mandatory in NHRA. The one I'm restoring is 1960 283, stroked and bored about 352 ci, 6-71 blower, on gas. I can't locate a rule book from that era. Searching pictures I see early dragsters, some using chutes and some not. And if I'm looking at pictures correctly it seems the same was true for fuel shutoffs. Thanks Charles.

Thanks Rooman & dreracecar never thought about a vintage choke cable. Found a perfect vintage NOS one on e-bay that looks like ones I've seen in old pictures of dragsters interior shots. $14.95 free shipping. Thanks again. Charles

Roo Man's Room / Fuel Shutoff
« on: January 14, 2016, 08:03:47 PM »
I've looked at numerous pictures to find the look or style of a correct fuel shutoff knob, or handle with the cable for a 1960 dragster. I'm still not sure what is correct for that period. Is there a fuel shut off cable with handle made today that looks correct for what I need. If not do you know where I could get a vintage one. Thanks Charles.

Roo Man's Room / Quick Release Steering Hub
« on: August 02, 2015, 07:24:01 PM »
I have a 1959-60 98 inch Dragmaster I'm restoring. Was there a type of Quick Release Steering Hub used on Dragsters back during this time. If people were making their own would anyone have a picture of one. It's a tight squeeze fitting in this thing, but I want to keep it period correct. Thanks Charles.
