Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Change gears or tyres?
« on: April 11, 2016, 04:34:40 AM »
Bill hit the nail on the head. A 31" tire and a 4.88 gear would give you the 6500 RPM @123 you're looking for. A 9" is fairly cheep and ez to build for a 400 hp application. My 2 cents would be, run the 31 inch tires. Keep your 4.30 gears in case you get a chance to run 1/4 mile tracks. Build up a 4.88 center.
(dang the bad luck I just sold off a set of 9" Richmond 4.88 pro gears cheep)

Nice looking car Randy.
I'm a guy with first hand disappointment on a sonic check when I thought I was all ready to sticker. My 2 cents would be get a hold of the person who will be certifying the car now. Work with the guy. A phone call and a couple quick checks to make sure things are on track would be money well spent. It will make final certification easier. All dressed up with no place to go is NO Fun.

Similar acids were used to give muzzle loader firearms a stylish brown finish 200 years ago. Your a trend setter with the classic look. :D

Gassers / Re: New to the site and saying, Hello !

Does your 55 need to be streetable? I sure would  consider putting the 265 under the bench for safe keeping and building the 350. 85 extra cubes will help. A stack injected 355 in a gasser will "Haul the mail" !! :D Just my 2 cents. Welcome to Front Engine Dragsters. Glen's got a great site here.

BK I believe I saw the same article. Don't know that I've ever ran the screws in a off clocked position.  Also saw a slow motion vid that showed a direct correlation to the amount of the wrinkles and the amount of screws. More screws equaled more wrinkles.

760 the main thing is your up and running. Having fun too by the sounds of it. That's where it's at. Your transportation to the track doesn't have to look like something from "Life styles of the rich and famous"  ;D

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Engine Torque Limiter
« on: March 20, 2016, 11:58:52 AM »
Thanks for all the replies. The second part of the question was also touched on. Are torque limiters really needed? A wide chassis car with a .100 steel mid plate would much more "Needy" than a narrow chassis car with a 1/4 in alum plate bolted in. My front mount is the same as Jon's wing and clamp style. Johns car has allot more "Good Business" going on up front though! ;D

My old Dart block used torque limiting struts from holes where std. motor mounts would be angling up to a chassis tube. My new Brodix Alum. Block has the std motor mount pad milled off. I do run a 1/4 in. Alum mid plate. How have you quys limited engine fore and aft movement when you couldn't
bolt to the side of the block?

Roo Man's Room / Chute Mount
« on: March 08, 2016, 11:13:45 AM »
My old chute is kind of like its owner, tattered from being deployed too many times!
Tech has never hassled me but I doubt if the mounting is legal. The aluminum plate on the dragster side had been relieved and a small hole cut in the bag. This allows the chute main lanyard to go straight threw the pack to a half inch bolt. The main lanyard  all coils up first. Never hanging down. It's positioned in such a way that it can touch nothing metallic when deployed.  It was mounted this way when I bought it and has never failed me. Ever seen this before? Has a clean look but it's the only one I know of this way so its gotta be wrong.

I was told at least one the gentlemen on that list were using alum. bolts with drilled centers. If that is indeed the case the ring and pinion would be the least of my rear worries.
