Wanted to buy / Re: Rear Rims
« on: January 30, 2019, 04:38:22 PM »
It has a full floater rear end. The mounting surface for the wheels is 8 inches from the body. It needs that much backspace to keep the inside of the tire close to the body.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: shifter help
« on: January 27, 2019, 04:02:23 PM »
Finally figured it out. Had to use some parts from the shifter parts bag and some from the transmission and stole one part from my 40 Ford transmission (700R4). All the holes in the universal shift arm on the transmission are not drilled the same diameter. Once I had the correct size part that fits in the holes it came together quickly. Thanks for the help.

I just purchased a Powerglide transmission from A_! and a Biondo Outlaw shifter. Does anyone have a picture of the cable mount point on the trans and the arm on the side of the trans. The arm I got with the trans is a universal unit and I don't know which hole ton use

Does the one inch tire bulge seem like the right amount ?

Roo Man's Room / wheel backspacing
« on: November 18, 2018, 05:01:49 PM »
If I measure from the wheel mounting surface to the roll cage sheet metal I get 8 inches
I borrowed come wheels from my neighbor and the tire bulge was 1 inch (That is the tire bulges out one inch from the edge of the rim)
If I use a wheel with a backspace of 5 inches I get two inches of clearance between the edge of the tire and the body
Is two inches the right amount or should I try for less?

8-1-5=2

Wanted to buy / Re: Front engine dragster wanted
« on: September 22, 2018, 09:29:26 AM »
I finally found a fed just a hundred miles from my house. I bought the Mccurdy and sons dragster out of West Linn Oregon. They ran a big block chevy with a blower. The car has a 210 inch wheel base. I got it as a roller now I need a bbc race engine for it. The weirdest thing is it has a 19 1/2 inch cage but I fit. I go race at Bonneville in a week so all my time is spent on that cas for now

good advice on the Fenton car, I guess I'll just have to drive around and try sitting in more cars. I sold my door car last week and at least now I have some money for this project
