Google 'Trustart drag racing'

Why? Meaning where this comment come from? Thanks
I am pretty sure somebody said one good reason for being the faster car is the slower car has the first chance to red light, in bracket racing. With the advent of the Trustart in "crosstalk" trees the driver with the worst red light will get the lose ticket, not the first driver to go red.

Maybe that statement got edited out of the original post. Sorry for the confusion.

I made the comment up a couple posts. I've have heard of true start but the track I race at uses Crosstalk but first red still losses.

Well since half of reason of having a race car is something to work on I am getting the most out of it.LOL I di find cpl things needing massaging while working on engine. Plus found that math on shorter rods effect on compression was dead on. still sucks to loose ,6;1 just to save 800 on set of rods.New pistons will fix that plus add another 3:1 extra along with 28 ci. Got to learn that " It is bracket car how fast does not matter" thing I keep hearing.

Don't listen to them the fast car win's on a double red.

I think what I ended up with would be called a spoiler. I followed the top of the body back about 18"s over the rear deck. I only got to run it a few runs but I think it did what I needed. It was late in the season on an overcast day. Something that was a problem before. And I could make a full pull.
Now I need to put the 4 link back to where it works at the first part of the track.
For those thinking it was Dew on the track it wasn't, all it had to be was the sun getting at a lower angle and the track cooling off. I'm thinking the glue shortage had an affect on it also, as it was worse this year than previous years.

Dan,
I have a couple pumps I believe could be rebuilt but would need more than just a set of gears.
I don't need them. Is there someplace that wants them or do they just go in the scrap pile?
I also have a couple bands with original lining. Are they cores or scrap.

All I'll say is, Bryan Hall won the March Meet in the Tramp with a 5.987 @ 240.85 on a 13" tire with zero downforce...

Thats why I question the need for a wing.
I thought about a narrower tire maybe helping.

Some basics for you to work from
120" Altered, 4 link, ridged front
23 T body. Rear tires are exposed. It's the body that the rear deck is a little higher the tire.
1700#s with me in it. 1100#s on the rear.
15x33 Slicks
630 hp small block
Runs 1.12 60s, 5.20s eighth mile at 130 mph. very consistent.
When the sun is out the car is fine. Straight, consistent does just what you would expect.
As soon as the sun gets a little lower in the sky, say below 45deg. the car becomes a handful. 60s hold up but it starts slipping and sliding down track. Pretty sure the tire is spinning.
And I seem to be the only one with this problem so I'm not thinking track.

Unless the line is breaking down and clogging the filter I doubt it would be the issue stumbling from idle. I could see down track. Unless you have a giant pump and are recirculating a ton of fuel.
I have a -10 filter on the inlet without problems. Around 650 hp. I did have issues once when the screen in the filter was too fine. 40 Micron is too fine I think I have a 100 Micron now.
When I hear rough I think too rich could the gas have been leaning it out to the right mixture.
When I hear stumble I think bog which sounds like idle pressure or BV setting.
I had the same journey to get to a solenoid on my primer.

Nothing like leaning on an engine to find where it's going to leak.

If you're OK the pedal, you might be able to go to a smaller bore master cylinder.
It will give more pressure but add some travel.

BK...I'm trackin'.... A belt driven pump wouldn't give me the between runs cooling that I would get with the electric pump and fan. I'll just have to make sure I have a generator/battery charger that puts out enough amperage to run everything and "top off" the battery.

Speaking of battery, I suppose the only way to go would be with an AGM battery for safety sake.

Lynn
Moroso has an electric motor with a belt to drive a stock style pump. They work well but its just more stuff that can go wrong.
From the sounds of what you're going to do engine wise you could get away with a standard lead acid battery. Mine worked OK until my 60 foots went under 1.20. An AGM would always be a better choice though.

So....I've been looking at and giving more thought to small radiators. The size of a Honda Civic radiator wouldn't be a deal breaker but I saw another post, maybe on this forum(?), about using a Honda Goldwing motorcycle radiator. The approximate size of the Goldwing radiator is about 11" X 14" with a thickness of about 2 1/2" and has 1" inlet and outlet fittings. Thoughts on using one of them with an electric pump (or maybe a regular aluminum pump?) and an electric fan with a mild 305 Chevy carbureted on gas? Using an electric pump would have the benefit of running it along with a fan on the radiator to cool down between rounds. FWIW, I plan to run only 1/8 Mi. tracks.

I'm getting ready to build mounts for radiator, battery, fuel and "puke" tanks, so would like to position everything just once.
Lynn
You definitely want to be able to run the fan and pump when the engine is off. It won't matter if the pump is engine mounted or remote either will do the job. If you go with engine mounted I would look into and electric one to avoid having a belt the could be a problem.

You may not like the drive but you should like the track at Empire, it just keeps getting better every year.
If you plan on running a bunch you can rent a pit spot for the season and leave your stuff there.

I had a similar setup to yours at one point.
It was OK most of the time but if I went rounds and the pace picked up it wasn't quit enough.
If you set idle a little rich it will help by cooling off on the way back. But you end up with a lot of moisture in the oil pan.
I have a radiator out of a Honda Civic now and that seems to be enough. And I can keep he engine on the leaner side.
