Post by: spookie on February 27, 2016, 08:57:54 AM
Have 22-2.5x17 front dragster tire that always goes flat.I cleaned bead mounting lip and used black sealer. Cannot find leak! Does anyone have a cure except for installing tube It is a Hoosier tire on a Weld wheel

If the tire is going flat during or just after a run, you need a valve stem cap. At speed the valve stem core can be pushed in, letting the air out. If that is not your problem, spray water/dish soap around the tire, bead, and all over the wheel, it could be leaking thru the wheel.  The air is leaking somewhere, last resort, put the whole wheel/tire in a tub of water.  If it's leaking thru the tire, try coating the inside of the tire with dish soap, sometimes it can seal the tire.
I always use inner tubes on the light weight wire spoke wheels I sell.
Call me if you have any questions.

I've seen many gaskets around the valve step on weld wheels leak.  Because of that simple fact, i'd run tubes.  Take a peak at the condition of the rubber at the base of the stem.  most welds are very narrow where the stem hole is and it doesn't support the rubber gasket.
