Bruce, as the others have said do not mount the trans tail. Just let it float.
Glad to see you bring that one back, hope to join you guys soon. There are a bunch of new cars coming together for the SHRA.

Paul you are correct, I did not notice the MW would span that far. Thanks.
They are proud of that one aren't they? The Strange version that goes to 6" is only $175

Finally back to work on my new build, and need a longer coupler due to moving the motor farther out.

Looks like both Mark Williams and Strange have couplers for a max 6" space between the trans rear seal and the face of the rear end coupler.
What are you guys using that will span 7+ inches without going to a long shaft with sleeves like an altered?

BK, you say your Spritzer has a sold rear mount? does it use a rubber isolator, or is it actually mounted solid with no give?

Jeff it is a BBC, initially aky injection then blown.
And yes the biggest concern was the weight. But I know in our FEDs you do not run a rear mount with a motor plate. When you tie it all together, if the chassis flexes the trans is going to be your weak point, that is why we leave the PG float.

Looking for some guidance on a trans issue.

Helping a friend with a new altered and he is looking to swap the powertrain from his other car into a new hardtail altered chassis.
Altered was running a PG, but we want to run the current TH400 as a two speed in the altered. This gives a more favorable gear ratio, + saves $$ from buying a new trans. Driveshaft is not an issue as there is only 1/2 difference, but he was concerned about having a rear trans mount.
Never ran mounts on a glide in dragsters that I have played with, but not sure if the added weight of the TH would be a concern?
Anyone experience running a TH400 in an altered?

Ultimately this car will have a clutch.

All right, I will chime in. Simple is good. Trans brake and mag kill on the wheel. Oil pressure gauge screwed into the back of the manifold, shift light on the side of the injectors, shifter on the right side of cockpit, parachute lever on left, fire bottle control under the shifter and fuel shut off T handle on top of the rear end center section. I do have a small dry cell alarm type battery to run the trans brake and shift light, and a memory tach under the cowl to check after the run (wise man told me I should not look at it during the run, no time anyway). If I configure it to run a battery to start there is also a cable operated battery shut off on the corner of the parachute pack.

As the others said, good ones are great. Watch for rust and they are very heavy. I almost traded for one, it had some add ons like shower and basic LQ and weighted around 9k empty. This was 40 or 42ft.

There are some nice pieces here.
KISS, I use an adel clamp at the corner of the rear of the pack. It is attached to an L bracket coming off the attachment point of the pack. Sorry no pic handy.

Spud, I have a friend who uses the same set up on a hat system. No good way to use a dripper on that, but I did not think about running the pump dry. How long could you run one on a primer system without fuel in the pump and not do damage?

Two of the things I remember most were the pinstriping on the mills and drill presses, and the sign on the wall that said "I don't give a xxxx how they do it in California" Hope it is still there.

Two of the best guys in the sport. I learn something everytime I talk to them, and they just keep getting better.

I am a little late to the party, but Jon has helped me on wheels too.
There may be other companies that do that kind of work, but I honestly do not know who they are. Jon is the one everyone recommends.

Another vote for left side in front of hoop. I cross over with my right hand and it is easy to follow down the front of the hoop to find it in case of a problem. I am also a fan of opening it on every run to develop muscle memory. New build will not have a sheath either, just the wire.

Ah, got it. The SFI spec diaper is a little spendy, I ran one from one of the mail order houses till it was ripped bottoming out. New one was sewn out of ballistic nylon a little beefier than the last and I actually thought about building a pan instead.  I can see the benefit to each one.
