Title: Introduction for Geri (New Member) Please give HER a warm welcome
Post by: GlennLever on September 09, 2013, 04:12:37 AM
Geri sent me a nice introduction with photos that I will share here with you

Glenn, thought you might enjoy a few pictures of my FED.

It started life as a 1965 Jim Davis 150" car raced through 1974 or so then benched.
I bought the chassis and a block in late 2009, brought the pieces (yes, pieces) home from Jackson California to Buffalo Missouri.

it was sold to me as a "chassis done, just add engine"
which of course proved not to be the case.  I had to back half the car myself  immediately as  the former owner had cut the roll cage off, then taped it in place for photo's.

This of course dictated a new body, and armed with no experience I built the new body for the car as well.
with the chassis again looking  like a real car I built the 392 Hemi  using Venolia rods and pistons, Vintage Cams roller cam, BDS nitro blower, a hilborn "4 holer" with an Enderle K valve which I adapted to the Hilborn.

I build everything I possibly can myself -this includes the zoomies.
I have a NOS Schieffer magneto on it and run it on 95%Nitro.
it has a M/T magnesium rear end with Airheart brakes ,ET Fueler 16 x 12 wheels with 1300 M&H tires, front wheels are 17" Baronies.

member's of FED.
excuse my lack of corresponding as I have a tough time negotiating these sites- I have a tough time negotiating my home...
thank you all for the greetings  and it's an honor to be among you all.
a little bit about CHRR2013- its a 1679 mile drive from my driveway to gate 1 Famoso, Bakersfield ,a 3 day drive for this 72 year old but if able I'll do it again next year.
I run the car on 85%, not 95- a typo- to clear that up. however with a 30% overdrive on the blower it seems to thrive ,so I'll leave it alone. I like the look of the Hilborn 4 holer but am comfortable with the Enderle K valve which I adapted to the hilborn- I was told it cant be done- blah blah blah- so I had to do it.
Ive been involved in fuel car's for many years ,its  the air I breath since 1960.
I'm glad to have grown up in that era of drag racing.

I think its a six parts series. Very cool stuff. On a side note all 66 of Rickys Dragster Garage videos are good too. If you're a cacklefest lover.

Glenn, these may interest you.
they are 1:6 scale dragster's I make from scratch using GMP  1:6 scale engines. I buy the wheels, tires and engines and make everything else, the chassis's are generally  around 30" long.
I make them from brake tubing brazed together and hand form alum bodies. the one in the foreground  is a model of my own car.
I made the trailer too.

my apologies to the forum and questions  I don't get here as often as I'd like
mostly becasue I forgot my username and password.
the wheels- the rear wheels were from a supplier who made them in several sizes with these being the closest to 1:6 scale and sadly for the last 2-3 years I have not found any. they are just under 5" diameter and they were found on ebay hobbies and models. I want to cast some correct size tires but don't know how to make a mold or what product to use in making them.

the front spokes are a little to big but-- theyare from topflite for flying models- when available they sell for $32.00 a pair.
there are other model aircraft sites selling whhels but they cost almost $350.00 a pair.
