Front Engine Dragsters / Re: New Guy getting ready to build...
« on: July 28, 2013, 09:57:32 AM »
Commend you on doing all you can in house. If read a few of my post you will see Im same way. IMO the guy who does it all is the truest form of racer, not offend those who can afford to buy stuff.

On the cutting your axles IMO thats bad idea. I would recommend spending few bucks here for good set of aftermarket axles. Then its not my car or my work that can be slammed into wall because of axle breaking, the guy in other lane would appriciate it also. Not knocking the effort just the safety issue. Once you cut .020 or .030 past surface you have broken thru the hardened surface.

Good luck and hope you have lots of moly you might be surprised how much it takes,I was.

yea that would help with driving the finishline enough stuff to look around now.

Admit it would be nostalgic.

Another point is you need at least 1/2 the span of wing away from anything to get best air around wing. that would put wing 24" above injector.

Welcome blacksheep.

Sorry to in form you but most here are considered blacksheep by more than one.

Got to be if your not letting the motor chase you down the track.

I got here because of magizine article re lit a fire for a FED. That and I never liked following the crowd.

Another good off site contact and parts source would be Neil and Parks. Rooman can help you with most questions and from my understanding good amount of parts.

I have spec for TA/D wing. From what i found there is no spec for FED w/wing.Most nostalgia does not allow one period. So detachable with some dzus inserts to fill open hole when removed it is. Plus its not pushing and the cost of the streamline tubing means it will be added after cars done and the bugs worked out. That will also allow me to know what effect it has if any performance wise.

99% of my runs around here will be 1/8 and it will be hauling if I can bust 160 mph.I figure motor pretty close to 1000 hp and weight hopefully in 1600 on the line,ok hope less but error on highside will not disappoint me. Not dead nuts prefect but some number running on drag simulator sayd I should be able to get close to 155 mph in the  mid 4.40s which is quiker than I have been aiming for.
According tob Bill its big issue till closer to 195 to 200 mph range.

Building wing because well have the materials here and almost no cost.It will be here when I'm ready for it. Been working on wing then going over to fiberglass on nose piece. Two projects keeps it interesting.Down side time away from one gives me time to think and that can be dangerous and costly.

Chris you are right about the sound . Zoomie's sound nice and crisp They might even make that Hemi of yours sound good HA HA !

Might even be able to hear you small block beside it,if you put it almost on the chip and I just idle ha ha ha back atcha.  Now if I can get my elephant to run like it scared of that little mouse.

On lil brothers car 496" bbc we ran zoomies and everyone kept telling him that was reason car was not as quick as it should be. Borrowed a set of collector headers made 14 or 15 pass ans car never ran as good as it did with the zoomies.Nothing big .01 to .03 differance we figured just the air or track.

Zoomies lot liter and sound awsome so with no differance in performance we went back.Im building or will be building a set of zoomies for fed and if can get tubing i want they will be super lite weight.

Anyone know of supplier selling 120* 2.25 ID  or close aluminum tubing need .060 to ,080 wall thickness.

wonder how a 302 SBC would run in dragster. If you have never driven anything with one the moon is almost the limit rpm wise.If you can afford the valvetrain for the rpm it will wind them for ever.Had one in home built dune buggy 8500 rpm was nothing. Small crank would limit torque,so might not be fastest thing out there. It would be fun, which is why Im broke had lots of fun in life.

man a built 283 or 327 would be fun.I have 2 of each that are factory pieces(never been rebuilt). Loosing 243 cubes would be backing down a lot tho. I might build one after cars done to thro in for fun.

Man you guys are bad influence, like I ever need any incouragement to do something.

Back to wing.

anyone know of formula for figuring how much leverage wing will have with leverage from sitting behind rear axle. I will post question on speed talk also, nothing but engineers and they live for stuff like that.Thought maybe someone here might know also.

Yea Tim card board and poster board lot cheaper than aluminum.

I still have beer in frig and I will eat out once a month or so.Mainly for wife since she works her butt off.I don't eat lunch out most days.I cut a lot of corners.99% of the meat eaten in this house comes from dear hunting.Grow a garden and preserve lots, this year not so much because rain 21  days last month and this month not much better.

Now if I could cut my milk habbit I would have another 100 bucks a month, about gallon a day.Hey I dropped the Monster drinks and thats about 120 a month Im not spending.

Biggest expence here has been dogd latley.had one die 6-10 and cost was around 1800  ttrying to keep her going. The other one now has to have teeth cleaned another 450 this month. This is one thing I will not cheat for my racing. My babies come before me desires or need for speed.

  So I understand brother.

yea  wing is back more than planned in the above pics. Will have to tighten up back part some so I pull it foward good amount.would like to stay around 30" back.

Since car has to be pulled out to work on rear section and its getting ready to rain again(about everyday lately) beginning to think I live in Seattle washington. No work today on this so back to nose piece and air scoop for tank.   First scoop looks to be to big opening  so back to drawing board.

amazing how some of you are getting so much smarter with age.If not for having 3 tfx-92 hemi's sitting here and shelf full of parts I would have small or bi chevy in my fed.

Roo Man's Room / Re: Roo Man what for bare chassis
« on: July 21, 2013, 07:17:51 AM »
as the man said in Stripes " Thats a fact Jack". Most kids are just to freaking lazy to do anything that requires the 4 letter word WORK.

There are about 10 kids in nieghborhood that play up and down the street.Never had one ask first thing about racecar and garage door is open most everyday and sometimes all day. Now the fact they are actually outside is a positive thing,At least they got up from video game long enough to do that.

If it was sort of it had to be Scott.Having talked to Frank I can say hes does not say it in sort of,he just tells it like he sees it.
I think the high chair style chassis would work better with 4 link rearend.Get the driver up some should give more room for rearend movement.I had thought about a shied over rear to seperate driver from the motion and add safety incase of_____ it happens you know.

yea Tim anything I get done is progress no matter how small or big.  It takes a idiot to try building a racecar when he has no money, ask me how I know this.

Man this was alot easier when we where making money. It keeps me busy and some what out of trouble.
