Roo Man's Room / aluminum lower steering arms A-Arm setup
« on: May 21, 2014, 02:19:53 PM »
Thinking about going with aluminum lower steering arms.Wondering if anyone on site is running them.I know Parks sales them as does M-W. Figure if they where as questionable as some think(other sites most RED folks) they would not sale them. I have moly one for the upper arm and its pocket milled but still heavier and figure it gets more abuse. Yea I know Parks sales a titaniuym one also, later on maybe.

Roo Man's Room / caster angle how critical 1* differance
« on: May 21, 2014, 11:30:36 AM »
When I sat the a-arms for FED I was in very confined area(nothing new). I was just checking things the other day and found that right one was 1 degree less than left 18/17. Checked 3 times.  I doubt it will have much effect but figure asking could not hurt. I would hat to remake the a-arms but hect why should they be different than most things here lately?

Front Engine Dragsters / weight differance of ultra lite guages
« on: May 16, 2014, 09:07:42 AM »
Wondering if any had compered weight savings if any of these ultra lite gauges. I know liquid filled is 4 to 5 oz heavier, yea not enough to worry with but why buy heavier if not needed.OP will still be liquid filled.Temp is elctric and I can read as many temp as want with flip of switch.Multiple sending units and wired to switchs so I can read any of them same gauge. Tach is for tuning do its detachable.Ditched cool looking dash that weighed 4 lbs.switch panel and delay box with two gauges.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / OIL PAN KICKOUT worth effort?
« on: May 02, 2014, 05:36:47 AM »
I'm working on finishing my oil pan for my hemi.I have a moroso made pan,but had to add starter and did not want to cut it up. After getting it almost finished I was doing some reading in R-M engine book about pans and designs. They claim 20 plus HP gain with kickout to help with windage.

Now 20 hp is not earth shaking but hey its free power. It does show cpl hundredths and few mph, when run thru drag simulator program. I can add the kickout with some extra work very little cost. I have not finished inside anway and changing baffle and windage tray is not big deal.

With the Hemi design block and the crank being up in it instead of hanging out bottom like chevy,I was wondering if kickout would be as efective at catching the windage off crank. Most info suggest kickout more effective the harder you spin motor.only makes sense. While I will not be alky dragster turning this one(10,000 rpm shifts) I will hit 8000 at times and shifting around 7500. Unless I get pissed and abused car because of light bulb screwup(hopefully age cured this).
Finding info on kickout pan for Hemi is next to impossible. There are few thousand pics of BBC pans and not one that I found of hemi. Heck if had dyno I would R&D one with few ideas on diresting the windage some for kickout.

 Questions are. How effective?
Any design info and pics are worth ten thousand words with me?

Roo Man's Room / seat support requirement
« on: April 30, 2014, 03:49:13 PM »
I have chassis about done and finalizing few thing. My seat has 1" bar across front(at uprights) and the rear rest on rear bars. This is raised seat chassis. The seat it self does not have any bars under the butt. Do I have to have them? Seat fastens to 4 places attaching it to chassis and upper section. If have to have are moly straps suffiecent.1"x .090? I may also be making carbon fiber one piece seat later. Oh yea building to 2.2c spec on everything else,so might as well meet it here also. Could not find it in specs but then I am bad about reading over stuff at times.

Front Engine Dragsters / wheel spacers
« on: April 16, 2014, 07:17:02 PM »
I just got new axles and as figured after checking wheels(4.5"bs) and tires I also just got I need 1.5" more axle. I can get new wheels but will take while and finding same kind of deal on 15x14 4.75bc and getting 3 or 3.5"BS is going to be hard find.

Unforunately the axles where made to fit and I get to keep them. Nice too 40 spline drilled and lightened.man they are lite for size.

I would need 3/4" spacer per side.I have run 1/2" spacers and was not crazy about that.In know only 1/4" but man 3/4" seems like a lot IMO.

Wonder if any of you fellas are running anything close and if so with what kind of et you are running.Figure(hoping) to get in 4.60 to 4.70 1/8 mile range.

Front Engine Dragsters / Picking gear for FED
« on: April 09, 2014, 07:25:51 PM »
Trying to decide on which gear to go with for rear in fed.I have new axles, rotors and brakes on the way for car.If not for me having to have drilled axles with lightened flanges (7 to 8 lbs off total)I would have already gotten them instead of waiting for them.

Next is gear.I already have aluminum center (20 less than steel)and spool just need gear. Looking at 3.90 to 4.30 and leaning towards 4.11(also lightened another 2.25 lbs)
My comb  526 aluminum hemi BAE heads, injected, sheetmetal intake and mag12, Powerglide hopefully 1.69 first and 6400 to 6600 stall.
15x14 -32 hoosiers

Car 225" hopefully get it down to 1600# or less on the starting line.

   Any suggestions or comments welcomed.

Front Engine Dragsters / Wheel and tire suggestions
« on: March 14, 2014, 03:42:35 PM »
Looking for some input and wheel and tire combo. Not concerned about meeting any restrictions car is mainly bracket deal.

Combo. 526 Hemi est. 1000 to 1100 hp
PG looking for 1.69 low setup
6200 to 6600 stall not purchased yet
             4.11 9"
car 225"   50" put on motor
Driver too fat but working on that 230#
Hoping to keep car 1650 or less

I know Bill here has issues with 12" tire and topend stablity.

Im thinking 15x14 wheels which should allow me 12 to 16 tire. I think 16 too much . Also you hear every tire company is great and sucks depending on who you hear it from.Seems GY quicker(prone to shake),MT hook no matter temp(will not hold air) and hoosiers either love or total hate. Figure ask guys who run simular car would be better than lots of RED input.

Spud Miller's Cave / fuel pressure question for Spud
« on: February 19, 2014, 09:29:19 PM »
Hopefully I can explain this properly.
Looking for educated guess on pressure for part of fuel system.
 80 a pump 6.78 gpm
main jet normaly 130 using 8 x.038 nozzles
cube enderle BV
With new system I would have 115 and 65(close numbers maybe not dead on) jets both low pressure poppets operating as one main jet.Would run system this way to get better dialed in before getting to next step.
the 65 jet would be bypass that in a valve of my design, should be free flowing for jet size.Under normal operation it would return to tank.Under nitrous use its enrichening system, jetting figured to be slightly more then the .065 bypass. This will be operating roughly  within 500 rpm range 6500 to 7000. Real word testing will help zero in on exact range.

Not asking about nitrous just fuel pressure that would be on other side of the .065 jet at this rpm range. Oh yes this would be T'd in before BV and according to your calculator shouls have system pressure 93 psi. Not sure if enough info or if question can be answered w/o flow bench in even a SWAG. Not looking for dead on just good ballpark number.  Mainly check calculation and fuel pressure flow for nitrous based on pressure. I have fomrulas to convert flows based on pressure and vice a versa if know one or the other.

Any idea?      Sorry if hard to follow explanation.

After reading few things on oil control , I did some real close checking on my TFX hemi stuff. Returns from heads suck. Small 5/16 holes and rear left does not even return. I am adding some returns from block just below deck where heads drain to and going into pan below the windage tray. Going to run aluminum line since no pressure and has to aid in cooling some.

Also added a piece of aluminum in lifter valley to help keep oil off bottom of intake and Hopefully keep it cooler. Also had oil drianing to ends so as to keep oil   draining back on top of rotating assembly reduced.

As posted on another thread I.m also looking into adding a oil accumalator to system.

HAve already added gas ports to the pistons in hopes of picking up few extra ponies.
Figure its worth cpl horse's maybe not enough to notice by them selves but they add up.

Wondering what other tricks some here have done or tried and what results where. Also any thoughts on above ideas are always welcomed.Might read and ignore, but  like to give any idea a look.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / oil accumalator
« on: February 16, 2014, 08:47:23 AM »
Have been researching oil accumalators. Never ran one but then always ran blower motors ans just primed system with plugs out and spinning motor.

Seems there is side benifit of being able to run little less oil in pan and reducing effects of windage. Sort of poor mans simi dry sump. Good amount are claiming some et advantage to them mainly because of windage reduction. Since I have 10 quart pan and can easily get by with less  I'm thinking I could run 7 in pan and 3 quart in accumalator. With pan I have dual trap doors and windage tray plus heads return straight to the pan below windage tray.

Anyone with reason this might be issue let me hear your thoughts. If you run or have run a accumalator let me know your thoghts or findings.
