Front Engine Dragsters / Today's test session
« on: March 28, 2020, 04:58:16 PM »
I think I finally have this car sorted out after a long struggle with launch handling and a few carb issue. I went down to Piedmont dragway 2 weeks ago and worked on the carb troubles and finally on the last pass the car went 4.93 @137 and straight as a string. Well after 2 weeks of wondering if it was a lucky run or if the car was actually working right, today I got to go to Elk Creek dragway which is only about an hour from home and make a few runs. All within .02 of each other, with a best of 4.99 @ 138, and again no ill handling off the line so I think I now have a car I can go racing with if we get to have a race season this year

Front Engine Dragsters / Gloves ?
« on: January 30, 2020, 03:28:04 PM »
Anyone have good suggestions on how to measure for glove sizing? I've been wearing my old funny car gloves and there is no size tag in them. And since I live in the middle of nowhere there's no chance of being able to try any on. So other than to just guess and chance trying to return wrong sizes, how do I go about getting a pair that fit?

Front Engine Dragsters / Safety Gear
« on: January 02, 2020, 12:21:02 PM »
Just bought a new -15 Sparco suit from Biondo to replace my long out of date one that I had been using. Must say it is a lot lighter and feels like it's going to be cooler in the summer as well. Now I need to get new gloves and shoes to go with it. Am I reading the rules correctly that 3.3/5 is the rating needing for those? Car is naturally aspirated but no floor over the transmission

Roo Man's Room / Advice on building a new fuel tank
« on: April 12, 2019, 10:39:08 AM »
I've been running an old Eelco tank on my dragster and it was working fine with the carb setup, but it isn't big enough for the hilborn setup on methanol, so I think I'm just going to build a tank to fit down inside the rails of the chassis.  What aluminum alloy is the easiest material to work with? Where can I buy it online? I'm also open to any other advice, I've done my share of welding and fab work but this will be my first try at building a fuel tank.

Spud Miller's Cave / fuel pump drive belt ?
« on: December 10, 2018, 01:40:37 PM »
Anyone here know what length belt originally came with the standard enderle belt drive setup for a BBC? I bought one second hand and the belt is way too short. Or what is the correct way to measure for a new belt?

Front Engine Dragsters / calming the car down on the starting line
« on: July 18, 2018, 03:19:07 AM »
Finally got the car out for the first time this year, and picked up right where it left off last fall. It 's 178" David Beard chassis with a 604" BBC. I had made around 30 runs with the new engine last year and ran straight as a string but not performing up to potential. I finally tried pulling the timing back to 32 degrees and the engine seems to love it, but it has made the car for the most part undrivable. I've tried both raising and lowering the wheelie bar but it just hits the bars hard and gets loose. I'm running 33-10.50 tires and a 4.20 gear. Right now I'm thinking either a gear swap or a front weight bar. What would be the right thing to try first?

« on: August 07, 2017, 03:22:24 PM »

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / looking for a good converter builder
« on: June 24, 2017, 08:11:05 AM »
I made it out to the track last night with the dragster, Looks like my engine troubles are finally taken care of, but I think I killed the converter. It's got the rotten boiled fluid smell going on and never stops slipping. Who is good to work with to get the right converter on the first try?
