a chevy shim gasket for small blocks .016-.017-.018 they varied on 327 and 350 before we started decking the block or were not allowed to deck(rules) even stacked two to get proper cleareance, never had any problem

I have posted this on cpl other sites. Most think .040 is thinest they would go. Hvae been told by two they are not saying a .021 gasket will not work, but they would be scared to try. I have been called lots of things but scared to try something has never been one of them. Guess we are going to try a set. Lil brother has cnc router and making a set cost me nothing. Plus with injection and no  boost I doubt I am going to burn a head or block iof one cuts loose. Hey I have bruned both and even won a national event with block fill with MArine tex and hand filed flat.

As for gaskets I have a set being made that are .021 and with new rod will keep me at same compression. Hopefully they will hold up fine.Lil Brother made 40 lbs boost on his VW VR6 before the .021's let loose but then he did not have o-rings at the time.

Reply's I have gotten on another site seem pretty close on hp and compression While no really part of this thread I figure might be good side note.
. On BBC 1 point is worth 30 to 40 hp. I am hopefully being conservative thinking 20 hp per point. If son the 2.5 Gain I am looking for would be 50+ hp. dd that to new cam which is 12 degree less And programs show it worth 40 to 50.All combined would be nice increase. Tea mine is Hemi and cambers differ a lot I figure its best comparision as to what to expect.
Like everything else in covid Ameerica it will be while before I get anything in. I figure if I can get few more hits and maybe cpl soild runs this year and come out with pistons and cam I will have some real number to work with.

I've run copper gaskets with O-ring BBC  9.2 compression , 871 20% over didn't have a problem with cylinder but had problem wth coolant leakage tried copper, and aluninum spray and some type of GOOP, nothing worked went to MLS no more problems but the gaskets were more than .021 thick

Well no collant here.O ringed heads with receiver in sleeve. Have run copper with 14-71 at 64% 12.5:1 and whipple screw blower with 12:1  54% making 52 lbs boost and  no issue caused by gasket. Plus with 12 to 15 sets of different thickness sitting here ,not running copper would be wasting money that could be other parts. Good thing about .021s is lil brother is cutting them on his CNC(beats bridgeport this time) and cost will be zero. Thinking abou trying them with rods I have in it which are .020 longer than new ones. Might be bad added compression might make me now want to change rods. Doubt much difference but hay more is just that.  Plus piston to head would be pushing limit hard, then I have flapper wheeled kiss marks before.

I had a set CNCd back in the day. Copper gaskets need to be pre-heated and softened before installation. Something went wrong in that process as the gaskets ballooned to intake valley at first pass LMAO. That was N/A SBM 11.5:1 deal. Not saying it can't be done, but it can be done the wrong way also. At least I did.

Called lil brother today. He is using having covid as excuse for not having them done. Told him was fine I wanted to reduce inside to 4.260 instead of 4.360.Not much but hey its free compression and little bit of power.
