Front Engine Dragsters / which rear gear?
« on: July 11, 2022, 04:09:00 PM »
Ok with very few runs on gear in car it is showing that it was used gear when I put it in.  Not enough runs to decide if like the gear or not. Been running 4.11. More info.1.69 low gear 32 tall tire and chance of 33 in future. Figure I need to be 3.89 to 4.30 and that is why the 4.11 a mid-range start. Car has not been violent or stupid acting. Shake issue especially T-n-T track which normally sucks anyway.  The engine is 975 hp about 900 tq. car weight around 1750# on starting line. Should be adding 75 give or take a few . if new pistons  and rings ever get here. With cost of Pro Gear would like to guess dead on.

So 3.89,4.11 or 4.30? Remembering 1.69 low.

Front Engine Dragsters / lightened ring gear and poiished ring gears
« on: July 03, 2022, 07:13:45 AM »
Wondering if any here  are or have run the lightened ring gears or polished ring gear. I have about decide on my  best gear for car and getting ready to pull trigger on purchase of new gear, figure lightening is worth it if can get enougfh weight off gear.As for polished gear I see were it might pay off with less drag but being bracket car doubt it is worth cost for this car.

If running or have run either I would like your thoughts on both.Especailly interested in longevity of lightened gears.

Front Engine Dragsters / chute sizing
« on: June 06, 2022, 11:36:45 AM »
Ok going to get new smaller chutes. Well one for car and one for quick change out. I have two 12' chutes off TA cars.Looking at difference in 420 and 430 chutes and with the weight of car maybe even going down to 410 chute.

Any input on sizing would be great. Have checked charts so thats covered. Anyone lknow the difference in them as far as hit and weight. While weight is not the only factor if I can go one step more for very little weight penality. All who have read my stuff know I would drill holes in tires if they would still get me down track anc ut weight,so it does matter. Just not the only factor. We all know feds are normally lighter than cushy four-link RED built for candya$$'s that are affraid to ride whole 1/4 with few bumps.

As for hit I am not overly concerned as long as it opens quick and will save my a$$ in an oh shyt situation.LOL

Front Engine Dragsters / Over tiring a FED for bracket racing
« on: May 29, 2022, 07:36:15 PM »
A lot of bracket guys swear by over tired and llose converter for consistency. They also swear a FED is the wrong car for job. So why listen to them on tire?LOL

I know most feds run less tire than equal power RED, but for most it is because quicker et. Wondering if any of those who bracket race agree with over tiring or do you find less tire gives more consistent wheel speed and inturn more consistent et's?

At present, I have MT's that are 14x15 32. Looking at cpl options and would love to try narrower but a taller tire, the problem is that would require new wheels. I love the idea of both and added benefit of less weight is great, problem bifold already running on ultra-lite. I have plenty guys around with bigger wheels I can try for nothing unless putting new tires on them and can always sell tires for most of money back

Jon's Wheel House / GY 2070 and 2078
« on: May 29, 2022, 12:54:05 PM »
Looking at new slick options. In GY selection two look like possibilities.  2070 and 2078. Wondering if any here have tried either/or results and thoughts on them.

Use to be you could try a cpl different setups, sale off later and lose a little with cost increase you need second mortage to buy 2 or 3 sets of tires

Spud Miller's Cave / KISS yolu not me!
« on: May 22, 2022, 10:16:36 AM »
Keep it simple stupid. Well that easy to say and hard as heck for me to do. I know it and preach it.It is one of those do as I say not as I do thing.

Prime exaple simple MFI.  you have pump,BV and 8 jets.Simple as it gets. No! I have to have either 16 nozzles,8 ports and a  fuel log in hat or 8 ports fuel log and down nozzles. Meaning lots of small nozzles and jetting with butt loads of calculations. I think if there was away to complicate taking a dump I would come up with it.

For you on good do as I say and never do as Chris, heck most wouldn't live thru some of it.LOL

Spud Miller's Cave / altitude change to effect nitro
« on: May 15, 2022, 06:16:53 PM »
Since nitro burns at lower AFR than alky how much change to effect tune on nitro engine. In this case it is high volume almost for load A/Fuel. 40 gpm or 28 to engine with 95% load. Lets say a  change of 500' DA what percentagefuel.Even if info is on smaller load with less flow info is always good to have.

« on: May 03, 2022, 05:04:51 AM »
Ok it is weed find. Our old funny car body Starr Rider 3 was found in Wisconsin. Seems it was black at some point. Guessing the guy sanded black off to fins our paint scheme under it. Looks like the paint is still in decent shape for 30 yo.  While not a Nostalgia I think 30 years is pretty nostalgic. If interested it is in BB/FC group on facebook.

Roo Man's Room / passing thru roll bar
« on: March 23, 2022, 07:35:15 PM »
Have not found an answer one way or other on this. I would like to make a small pass thru on roll cage, using a welded in tube maybe 3/8 to 5/8 max size/ Anyone know where its legal or flat out no no. Other option would be thru shoulder hoop passing from the cockpit to rear/Pretty sure that is legal and would require a doubler around opening if to large. I know there is size and can find if going that route.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Higher trans lower rear
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:39:51 AM »
Anyone running higher trans gear(lower number) and lower rear gear(higher number ? My thinking is it will ease hit at starting line tq wise while allowing for lower top end gearing to give it extra ump  to pull  last 1/4 of track. Not really concerned about top end rpm. In my case the motor use to turn 10.5k with a blower,  so a few hundred extra NA, extra being above 8000 or 8500 rpm is no biggy.  Plus 99% of runs will be 1/8 mile.

I did have some input from ol guy in Kansas about trans gear and was told do not run 1.80 low. Yea I am not lkeaving at 9200 rpm, but figure TQ with bigger crank will make up for that.Maybe wrong. What are you running. If known weight and HP please.

Spud Miller's Cave / where to buy nitro other than Sunoco
« on: March 14, 2022, 07:11:47 AM »
I know there ore other sources of nitro out side on NHRA track and Sunoco. Looking for someone who sells it in SE area. In north Carolina would be awsome but pretty sure not happening.

This past weekend we had huge price increase over night after trying to by the afternoon before. If going from 1600 for barrel(42 gal.) to 1890 then up 130 next morning. So basically 2020 from 1600 end of last yeat.  The jump over night after telling us sorry we will be back in korning is plain BS!
