« on: July 15, 2013, 09:57:29 AM »
Spud not sure if you have need for them but I have 2 waterman underdrives one 4.5" and one 2.25".The 4.5 is 22% ad the 2.25 looks to be 14 or 15%.No numbers on 2.25 so had to count rotations.I called waterman and seems they are around 480.00. Will make good deal on one or both.Contact me if interested.Might could work on trade off for fuel pump repairs.I have cpl 1100,990 and 80a pumps I need to get fixed or sale as cores.

Front Engine Dragsters / specs for wing on FED
« on: July 11, 2013, 03:20:02 PM »
Anyone know of spec for wing on FED. I looked thru heritage series rules on NHRA site found nothing, does not mean I did not overlook it. Heck happens all the time with me. I know what I want.Cheaper air foil tubing would be great.Man 14 bucks a foot was what i use to pay though that was high.Found 2 site in mid 20's price wise.Thats about 140 per side.

Want to build it mounted lower on chassis and leaned back some with very low attack angle. I did mock up with cheap tubing and it lokks bada-- IMO and since its my car that  overrides all others. If going to build I would rather make it legal if possible.

Roo Man's Room / ground effects what counts
« on: July 05, 2013, 09:35:36 AM »
Going to be doing sheetmetal part of body soon(HOPEFULLY) does the little rolled lip at bottom consitute ground effects. Would like to have it. problem most nostalgia class' have a no ground effects rule.

Car will be mostly brackets, but don't want to have to chnage if i want to run some class that has rule against it.One goal of this car is to make it capable of running as many class' as possible with a few changes as possible. Engine and safety stuff another story. Chassis is built to meet 2.2c so chassis should be good for anything and little over kill on most. Heck when the idoit at lottery pulls the right numbers  the one I have.  I may be able to play with top fuel new and old style.

Hey guys,

Been trying to decide on piece for new car. here a seldom seen chance to give me your opion and me really care. Seriuosly look at pics  and let know your thoughts on these features.

First the nose piece if you can see the  V in middle. Kind of like it would lokk fast even if we all know it have no effect.

The chute body Im doing, the wing although it probably cost me hundredth or 2 looks B A( there no bad word).

Rear canard look cool but just be in the way and dead weight for bracket car

Deflector in front of  motor I like also. trying to figure how to build into sheetmetal w/o welding it on.

 what you think?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / how much power is extra compression worth
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:33:20 PM »
Building 526 Hemi for fed. Lots of used top alcohol parts. Pistons are good for 12.5 to maybe 13.25 depending on gaskets and rods used. Would like 14 to one and wondering waht say the 1.5 to one would be worth in power.
 4.31 bore
 4.5 stroke
 +220,.280 or .340 rods
   278/282  .750 cam 114 cl
  BAE fuel style heads
 sheetmetal intake
 Injection
 80a pump
 msd mag 12

My thoughts are it might pick me up 25 hp to 30 and that not a lot for cost  especailly in bracket race engine.

Roo Man's Room / protecting tubing during build
« on: May 22, 2013, 05:25:54 PM »
While probably not a problem for Roo man, doubt he take 2 years to finish chassis. I need to put something on tubing to protect it during build.I can rub down with wd-40 or marvel mystery oil.I need somethine super easy to clean away for welding. Plus needs to be easy enough to wipe off before painting.  Any better ideas.

Have noticed that more guys on site seem to be of the do it yourself mindset than on other sites that are RED dominated. Anyone else think that the nostalgia FED guys are more of this type.
IMO racing is all about building a winning car.
Nothing against the guys who buy most everything, heck some of my racing money comes from doing work for other racers.

Roo Man's Room / 4 link FED anyone
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:15:43 AM »
Wondering if anyone every tried a 4 link FED. I have worked on idea for while. Only issues are a spec to follow and haveing rearend moving under your butt.Movement not big issue as most don't move but inch or so on 4 link RED from what I have been told.

Putting rear suspenion behind driver is easy, but that would be altard in my opion. Plus I have seen quite a few long altards, not 225" long.
I know this flys in face of the traditionalist. But hey new ideas are what makes dragracing fun. Plus I would have to finish the FED Im building first and get some runs in and sure the money to build one while running one will be huge issue. Just thinking!

Front Engine Dragsters / more FEd bracket chat
« on: May 17, 2013, 01:19:25 PM »
Wondering what you guys that are bracket racing are doing for driving the stripe. Have had topic up on cpl other sites but all you here is get a RED cookie cutter car.

Been doing some thinking and can see where this puts us at disadvantage. Heck Im 20 feet from  front axle which makes driving stripe with wheel little harder to judge.

Roo Man's Room / aluminum for body
« on: May 08, 2013, 01:45:32 PM »
Wondering if everyones running .040 thickness for bodt work? Was told to use 5052 and .040. Looking at using .030 in cpl areas to cut weight. Not much but hey its weight. Eventually it will be mostly carbon fiber anyway so long life is not big issue.
