Roo Man's Room / Short glide trans mount
« on: May 22, 2014, 02:57:02 AM »
not real comfortable hanging a glide off the motor / m'plate, I know the RED guys do it but I feel the rear should have some support as it's a stock case.   I ran a solid rear mount with a full length Reid case in an altered and had no issues.

I'm thinking of making an angled bracket which picks up on maybe 3/4 of the pan bolts which is then triangulated to tabs on the chassis.  The idea is to take out any flex and chatter in the coupler, hence solid mounting it but I could easily get a nylon or urethane bush spun up if there was any benefit ?   This car will prob make 8-10 passes a weekend, maybe 10-12 times a year in brackets.

Roo Man's Room / Chute anchor ?
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:06:59 AM »
My digger has a chutepacker body, I've mounted the chute on a sliptube so I can remove and repack it off the car.

I want to do the same with the chute anchor point, primarily so all I have going through the body is a tube and the whole lot can be removed so the body can come off easily.

Is it permissible under the regs to have this ?  I'm thinking of a 1" tube off of a horizontal tube between the kidney bars, which accepts the slipjoint assembly, (solid bar internally not tube) with a Grade 8 3/8 bolt through it with only the bolt shank in shear ?

Front Engine Dragsters / Helmet bars with a 5 point cage ?
« on: April 28, 2014, 02:58:18 AM »
So how are you guys doing the angled bars in a 5 point cage ?  My chassis guy put right angled bars in on a 3" radius bend and they annoy the heck out of me.   Are large clr dies available for 1" tube ?  should this tube be ring rolled, or sand mandrel bent ?

Roo Man's Room / Anti-rotation device ?
« on: March 28, 2014, 07:00:33 AM »
So guys waat are you using, how have you got it set up ?  I'm currently using a 1/8 plate from lower rail up to the pinion support.

Inspired by some of the neat and clean set ups on here, I'm thinking of going off the bottom of the housing to the chassis with a 1" bar, the ends being drilled bosses welded in at 90 degrees, sat in double shear between two 3mm brackets.   I figure if this housing ever tries to rotate the link is in compression rather than tension by tething the pinion ?

Hi, is anybody on here associated with them or a dealer for them ?.  I have sent multiple emails to them via their website and cannot get a reply for a shipping quote.

Thanks

Roo Man's Room / Coupler Cover ?
« on: March 11, 2014, 02:56:48 AM »
Hi Rooman, please can I have you opinion on coupler covers ?  What gauge material and how to make it neat.   Should it be a full 360 degree cover and what material should be used ?  I'd normally make something like this from 1/8" steel buit feel this would be overkill with a coupler as the risk of them coming apart and having parts flayling about like a UJ are very low.

I was thinking maybe rolling  1/16" sheet into a horseshoe shape, flanging the sides to 90 degrees and dimpling for dzus fittings to a raised steel floorpan.  Would this be acceptable ?

Front Engine Dragsters / Wooden grips ?
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:53:40 AM »
anybody make their own wooden grips for brake hangle and butterfly wheels ?  I plan on using a high quality birch plywood but I 'm questining how to attach them ?.   I know items like wooden steering wheels are riveted with brass rivets but I'm unfamiliar with the process or where to source them ?.  I'm thinking a coutnersunk brass slotted machine screw might work ?

I've seen modern CNC aluminium ones for front wings, but how were they traditionally made ?

Your Builds / Photo Gallery / Another UK racer
« on: February 14, 2014, 01:48:49 PM »
Hi, room for one more, another racer from the UK.

Had a little 120in slingshot with a V6 then V8, ran 12.01 @ 111mph.  Graduated to a 23T altered, ran that for 3 years, ran 8.49 @ 152. Sold the altered to have kids, and decided to build another slingshot, currently 75% built, 138in 420cu in stroked 400 SBC injected on alky, chutebacker half body, 5 point cage etc.

Will post some pic but here's a video of some testing with the altered to start you off.
