When I bought my car it basically had a piece of sheet metal that wrapped around the back and sides (one piece) and a piece of metal pop riveted to the lower tubes for a bottom. It put your butt so low in the car that I had to have a new seat made. We moved the rear end housing forward and down a bit to give me a better fit in the car. This made for a lot more work (motor plates etc) but being comfortable in the car is key to good lights , good driving and safety (or so they tell me). Do what you have to do to make it the best fit for you. Secure mounting is really a cross bar along the bottom leading edge of the seat and a tube or plate curved from that tube to the rear structure to follow the lower seat area. Great places to mount zeus buttons too.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: ISP products or roll cage padding

I will order some longacre and see how it works.  I want the ISP but the cost and visibility restriction are big drawbacks. I realize the fastest cars use the ISP stuff but at this age i want to enjoy the view while I can.

Front Engine Dragsters / ISP products or roll cage padding
« on: February 26, 2016, 05:37:56 PM »
Looking for input on this one. I am almost done re-assembling my car and I have waited until now to decide about which product to use.
Do I use the ISP roll cage protection or do I just use the simple roll cage padding and zip ties? I really do not like the look of the simple padding but it's light and easy to remove and install. The ISP stuff is trick and much slicker looking on the car but has its drawbacks (visibility and cost).  I realize the safety properties of both are not equal but are both adequate?
Help me make this call guys!

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: bolts or studs
« on: January 23, 2016, 05:17:26 PM »
Studs are usually better for sealing than bolts. Sometimes they come with their own issues such as clearance for header flanges or springs inside the valve covers. i use studs wherever I can as sealing those pesky gaskets in race cars with decades old engine technology and fits is more of an issue than wearing out treads. Cool guy helping out your nephew!!! 8)

I got the steering stuff to the Chrome shop and the chassis to the powder coating guy last Friday. Now to order a starter and other odds and ends so reassembly will go smoothly. Is that even possible???

Not sure I got any value when I purchased mine either. That's just the way it goes when you buy stuff and its not limited to race cars. I never feel guilty when giving the seller my honest appraisal of their car. Sure they get mad but that's just reality setting in. Pay what you think the pile is worth otherwise you will feel taken advantage of.
If you don't get the car count your blessings!

Front Engine Dragsters / Wide Band O2 tuning for an FED
« on: January 03, 2016, 12:50:25 PM »
Has anyone played with using a wide band O2 sensor and gauge to tune their 8 stack injector (on Alcohol)?  Knowing that most of these devices have data recording capabilities it seems plausible that using one could help tune all aspects of the fuel curve (idle to full throttle). All of you have tried most everything at least once ,what were your experiences with this? Thanks!
