Had an odd one with a shifter cable adjustment.

Tested at Sacramento, car ran, shifted fine, looked great.  We put it in the box, the next weekend, drove to Famoso (6hrs), warmed it up and made a pass.  Wouldn't shift into 1st gear.  Had to adjust the cable.  Ever since that day (10 odd years ago), i warm up and make sure it is hitting each gear clean, and check adjustment on the cable, in each position.  Never had the problem again.

Not sure, to this day, how a cable changes adjustment when both lock nuts are tight, and no one touches the car for a week.

Valvoline VR1 tolerates alcohol better than Mobil 1 synthetic i think.

i used the synthetic in my bracket motors.  I'd set them up tighter on the bearings, and run a 5w20 oil.  changed it every winter.

My blown alcohol motor it way looser on the bearings.  I run 50w, and i change it once a year.

Oil threads can get 'heated' as everyone has a favorite.

I ran my bracket motors on Mobil 1 for years & years. Never had an issue.  I run my blown alcohol engine on Valvoline VR1.  Weight of oil is the call of the engine builder (not assembler).

Gassers / Re: Foot braking, what works best for you guys?
« on: February 20, 2020, 03:26:51 PM »
when i'm leaving off a foot/hand brake, i prestage then bring up RPM to pre-determined RPM and bump in

From what i've seen - foot brake converters are usually pretty loose compared to a transbrake converter

I would call DJ Safety and see what chute they recommend.  That was how i sized mine a few years ago.

I've ran most brands over the years.

I like simpson shroud lines, DJ canopies and Stroud "bag in a bag" technology.

I've added Stroud bags to my DJ chutes.

DJ provides the best service i've found.  Chutes go thru xxxx. They are a maintenance item for sure (if used regularly)

I can provide pics if wanted to the bag in a bag deal.  It makes packing them so nice....I pull both chutes every run, so we get a lot of practice. :)

Yes, my mag has a 2 step on it.

It was a good day testing. Made two laps.  Had a couple cameras on the car.

I run against the NE/1 index (7.60).  First run was 7.603/177, second run, it paddled the tire a big, ran 7.637, Track got really good and just didn't bring enough wheel speed.  oops.

99-100% HRHS rules.  Butch tries super hard to mimic their rules.

Car's in & tight.  Hoping the warm(er) weather shows up tomorrow so we'll have some type of racing surface.

If anyone's in Sac area, stop by and say hi.

I will test @ Sac once in a while, like this saturday.  There are about 5 of us going out.

I race Famoso about 6 times a year.  Samoa, Sonoma, Fallon, and Redding are the other main stays.
