Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: Power glide pumping fluid from vent
« on: January 18, 2020, 11:01:09 PM »
I just saw the gasket and helped put it back in and check it. I will post a pic of the gasket. Oh and it did not leak a drop this time...

The gasket was blown at pressure port and fluid went around pump o-ring to vent port and blew gasket in is how it was venting. Old gasket was .040" and new gasket was .140". Will start it tonight and double check it. Is a crazy deal.

Well trans came apart and pump gasket was again blown out. It is a new older hughes trans. It appears to be a JW case. JW said a paper gasket will not work and they sold my cousin a non blow gasket. Trans is reassembled and will be put back in tomorrow or next day. Will reply with results. And yes gasket was much better than a paper gasket...Thanks to all that answered

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Power glide pumping fluid from vent
« on: December 20, 2019, 07:01:55 PM »
Well my cousin has a hughes glide in his racecar, never been ran. Had trans torn down by a builder to get case recert, trans guy reassembled. Started car for first time and it instantly started pumping fluid out of vent. Took back to builder and he said he put pump gasket in wrong and fixed it. Fired up car again and as I was adding fluid it started pumping out vent again so there is a problem still. I have built a few glides and never experienced this. Any ideas? He wants to take it back to builder but I think a 3rd time will not be fun. I want to tear it apart but don't really know what to look for. Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Roo Man's Room / Re: Shoulder width vs cage size

I am 6'3" 250, my car is 23.5" Fits me well, I have seen Greg M in his fed and he fits, I have also drove a 19.5" fed for a few years with no problems. Every car is different. I am wide at the shoulders and tall so it was difficult to get a fed that I was comfy in. Like Greg M said suit up and check it out. I am doing a pour in seat to keep my butt from moving around was my only concern with the big driver's area. Once you make a hit it does not matter if you are shoe horned in or not, You will be hooked...Greg S.

Roo Man's Room / Wheelie Bars

I have a 200" fed, 6.0 cert moly car, plan on running 7.60's or better. Want to build wheelie bars, have a few questions and would like any pictures possible. It is a three bar single wheel deal on there now but is bent badly. Would like to know what size and thickness for the bars. It is roughly 6' long on the top bars and 6 1/2' on the bottom bar. The bottom bar mounts just under the back of the seat on the bottom of the car as it sits now, top bars on rear of car. What does everyone use for height adjustment? Need all new parts and where to buy like adjuster and wheel with brackets? Finally going full steam ahead on putting car together after life getting in the way for too long. Thanks Greg.

Dean take the outlet line to barrel valve off at fuel shut off and crank engine to see if pump is working. Have seen a couple good pumps just stop working. Easy check before any changes.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Gear set for a powerglide
« on: January 12, 2019, 06:59:42 PM »
I am building a 200" FED that should be pretty light. It will be a all aluminum Chrysler wedge in the 1000 to 1100 HP range. It is 510 ci, 4.5" bore 4" stroke. Stack injected alky deal with 3.150 butterflies that has been a very custom deal. Dam Chrysler has no good parts. It has a 3.89 Gear with a 31x12x15 slick. I will be ordering or building a powerglide for it. What gear set would all of you recommend? I am leaning toward a 1.69 so it will not be violent on the launch. I could go 1.80 but after a lot of research and talking to people the taller gear might be a better choice. What does everyone think? Thanks for the input.

I agree with Greg M., the SFI book has so much more in it. Money well spent and all the information you will need. As I recall it only took two days to get the book also. Good luck and most of all Good Times.

Coupemerc how much oil do you run in your set up? It appears I have the same system, 1.2" pressure and 1.4" scavenge 5 stage and the same tank. Thanks. Figured you were pulling way more vacuum, interesting. The money we spend to go fast...
