If he had removed the rod ends, drilled two holes in the cross tube, slid it over and welded to the tube adapters anything sticking out would be shorter than the diameter of the roll cage tubing.
Steve sent me these photos of his new additions....I have forwarded them to Gibbs, Hullinger, Bowers, and Snead.

I would just put a bag on it. I had similar issues only it was the accelerator pedal that got in the way. I went with a bag, went a lot of rounds with no issues. Granted it's not ideal but it will work fine. And if you manage to break the case with the planetary you will probably wear less oil.

Thanks. I bought a Spitzer Altered with a rack in it. It does have a lot of joints but didn't feel loose. Hopefully it feels ok when I get it running.

Can I ask why you switched from a rack to a box.

My guess is it will run mid to high 8s around 140-150 mph. Should go straight as an arrow. A good way to get him used to the speed and racing. In my experience RED tend to go straighter and are easier to drive. No where near as much fun.

Most pumps now seem to be tolerant of alcohol. Did you use the Enderle primer fitting at the distribution block?

If your plumbed into the distribution block any alcohol in the block and lines will be your prime before any gas makes it there. It really doesn't mater which you use. Gas will help on those cold spring and fall days when temps are 50 or below. I found with mine I would prime for a second or two. Start engine and had to hit it a little more until all the lines filled.

Because a Mag makes its own power your only looking to ground it to the chassis to shut the engine down. Nothing from the main switch should go to ground. You might be able to do it with a relay.
If your battery is up front you may want to consider moving your master switch up near the battery and controlling it from the back with a cable. That way you don't have a live cable going from front to back looking for a place to short out. It gives you a chance to put a lever in the cockpit to control the battery power. Also the control cable is probably lighter than your battery cable.

Your -5 stuff should meet the minimum. IHRA does not require the trans to be covered. One thing to watch I had one inspector require the helmet to have an SA rating because the engine was up front. Nothing says you cant wear more than the minimum. Just running gasoline doesn't mean its safer. A lot of people believe alcohol is safer than gas. I'm one of them.

How much of a change might be seen when you retard the timing. How much timing would normally be taken out.

If someone needs to stand the wheels up. You can bet it has all of 30deg of caster. That would be the place to start. At 150 mph I didn't feel 18deg of caster was a problem. Any faster you will need input from someone else.

I had a similar problem with my 175" FED. Turned right pretty good but refused to turn left. I found three things that fixed it. First I found the slot in my P&S box was tight on one end. A little grinding and polishing fixed that. Second the long steering link from the pitman arm was too light. It was 3/4" .058 tube. Turning right it was in extension and worked fine but turning left it was in compression and would bow down and wheels wouldn't turn as far. I doubled up the tube with the next size up and it fixed that problem. It still turned a little stiff. So I changed the caster from 30deg to 18deg now it drives like a sports car.

I like it. Reminds me of the Glen Way's Ground Shaker Jr.  IMO I'd put on a set of zoomies.
I agree about the zoomies. Motor needs to come up a ways also.

I allways tried to put it in 5 gal jugs with as little air space as possible. Make sure they seal tight. I had 4 jugs I kept over winter one year. Went thru the first 2 no problem 1st round of eliminations car starts to run poorly and gets worse each run. Turns out the o-ring was missing and it sucked up water over the winter. If its in the barrel with a lot of air. Purging the air out with nitrogen is a good idea.
