Electronics / EGT port location preference?
« on: December 12, 2019, 02:31:33 PM »
I'm adding EGTs to the dragster. Is there a preference on EGT location? Short side of radius? long side of radius (aka top or bottom of zoomies)? How far from port or exh valve?

Drag Racing / Old worn out blower vs brand new stripped Littlefield
« on: October 10, 2019, 11:17:49 AM »
I've updated my blower. My Mooneyham had been maintained but wasn't ever restripped. It was very loose. At 25 over it would make 16-17#s max.

My new Littlefield is nice & tight (brand new). On my old combo, about 10% over was 14#s. I'm thinking starting this blower at 1:1 or even a few under to get the feel of it.

Is there a general consensus on how much a new blower pics up?

Mathmatically, 1:1 should be 14psi or so (387" sbc)

Events / March Meet 2020
« on: October 01, 2019, 12:56:34 AM »
Famoso is changing how we park for the March Meet.  This is from their page.

PIT PARKING – NEW PARKING POLICY FOR 2020! Pit parking for the 2020 Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet will be first come first serve for pit spots. If you wish to park with your group please arrive with your group. For example: if you purchase 4 pit spots, all 4 competition vehicles must be present to receive the 4 spots. It is no longer required to purchase race entries at the same time, however it is required that you arrive as a group to park as a group. The earlier you arrive the better parking spot or spots you will receive. REMINDER parking begins Tuesday March 3rd, 2020 at 12 Noon!

Spud Miller's Cave / Since moving to ports......
« on: June 28, 2018, 01:15:56 PM »
Fuel distribution / plug reads are nice. It just feels like i'm having to use more mag to get it to run than years past.

Could it be a low pressure deal? i'm running right at 100psi, used to run 150-160psi. (Enderle 600 pump)
My MSD points box is <1 year old, but it could be taking a crap i guess. i will put my spare in and see if it changes.

If it were the mag, my plug reads would be rich i suspect, and they aren't. 1/2 crown on my plugs.

WHen i went to ports, i kept my jet area almost identical (within a few 10/1000).

8 x 32 in hat
2x31, 5x35, 1x39 in manifold, 95 main, 60 in HS @ 66#
8.91gpm
4% under on a 6:71

It was running 7.50 at 27*. up 2 * to run same #s now.

Something changed........

Spud Miller's Cave / Prefered port check location & pressure
« on: April 25, 2018, 10:57:18 AM »
In my mind, i see it better that the port check be located at the dist block so the feed line stays full.

Also, my idle check is 5.5#. port check should be............? 10?

Nice run Glenn.  8.07 on an 8.00 index.

Why did they shut you off the first time?  Very cool they let you run again.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Glide vent line question
« on: June 06, 2017, 12:46:58 PM »
On my FED, i run my engine puke thru the bottom frame rail to the back of the car, into a puke tank.  Pretty common deal.
I also have a tank on my trans vent line to contain anything that exits.
Would it be acceptable to plum that trans puke like into the lower frame rail?  I'd like to get rid of the trans puke bottle is possible.

I've gone over a few things in my head

a)wouldn't know when it puked, but we check fluid level every warm up
b)if a engine piston was ever compromised, pressure in that lower rail would rise, and possibly push contaminates into the trans case, via the vent.  A very light check valve inline maybe?

Any input on this?

Thanks!

Drag Racing / Wilwood 7/8" master question
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:24:44 PM »
Is preloading the piston in a master a no no?  I'm trying to get rid of some handle pull.  My lever ratio is 8.5:1, i'd like to shorten up the pull a little.  what is a favorable lever ratio?

After the longest winter of all times.......which started last October when the rods leaped from my trusty 376, to the day after Thanksgiving when a friend and I roundtripped Portland Oregon (637 miles each way) to January when i had the new motor in the car and broke an input shaft testing, and subsiquently hurt the new motor, to last friday when i made the first a-b pass on the new (again) motor. It feels SO good to be back in the seat.

During the offseason I upgraded to ISP pads (if you don't have them, you need them. They are SO MUCH NICER than 45.1 padding), and a 20# fire system. I feel safer in the car, and i like that. All winter Paul New & I discussed tune-ups on his old motor, my new motor. He ran it heads up in mid 6's and i am running NE/1 (7.60 index). Quite a different approach to racing.

I decided on a wet & safe tune up, 10% underdrive, and 30 in the mag. When we unloaded last friday for Test & Tune, the air was in the 1100' range, but 60 some water grains. Not bad, but not mineshaft either. decent air to get a baseline. We had an unofficial pool going on what it was going to run on it's first pull. My guess was 7.80'ish. The kid thought it would run a .40. when i stepped on it in the burnout, i knew it wasn't going to go .80. :) it felt like home. it felt happy and peppy. Backed up, staged the car, and pulled the trigger. First run since october? couldn't tell. .016 RT, 7.620 ET.

Well, finding the index didnt' take to long........

We made a little change for another TnT lap, but the driver did a bad job and when the car moved out of the groove he wasn't fast enough getting it back and had to abort about 1/2 track.

During the weekend we made a couple little tune up changes and it responded perfectly, so i think we are ready for the ANRA season starting in just over two weeks.

I saw the tree 5 times over the weekend. .016, .000, .011, .016, .001 (red) The red was first round of eliminations. oops. 5 hits at the tree after 4 months, average light: .0084. I think we are ready to kick some butt this year. :) Pics & video links to follow.

Time slip from first pull

Game face...you must have one.

My crew last weekend.  L-R AJ Thomas, Leona Means, Me, Austin Means, Liz, and Jake

Jake & Liz.  He works on the Fighting Irish NFC most of the time, with some work on big show cars, and Liz is my old B.U.G. from years ago, and his fiance.

My B.U.G.  She is a seamstress and makes her own BUG outfits. I like this one. :)

A still from one of the videos.  This was TnT2. I told ya i let it drive to far out of the groove.  I fought it back, it fought harder so i stepped off.

Giving grace and thanks w/ Chaplian Matt Miller

Gettin tight for Q1.  Ran a 7.549 after turning it up a little to see what it would do. :)

My kid, and my adopted kid, AJ Thomas.  He is a very good driver as well. Hope he stays out of NE/1
