Title: 2nd Test Session This Evening
Post by: lake_harley on July 14, 2023, 10:09:55 AM
About 5 or 6 weeks ago we took my freshly completed FED for a few test passes. I was pleased that it didn't do anything crazy on the 4 mild passes that were made on that first outing.

Over the last few weeks the car was stripped to bare chassis and everything was cleaned and painted, along with finishing up a few other minor things. Basically doing what I hope were the last few details before some "real" testing.

The plan is to slowly approach a full-on pass. I don't know how many passes we'll have the opportunity to do during a test-n-tune night, but we hope to make some progress toward a full pass. Based on our first test session I hope we can get in at least 3, and hopefully 4 passes.

My fingers are crossed and most importantly I'm praying that we have a productive and safe session.

There is some forecast of pop-up rain and storms, so I'm watching the weather closely before I head out on the 1 hour trip to the track. I hope to have a progress report tomorrow.

I think we had a good night at the test-n-tune last night. No massive puddles of oil or transmission fluid under the car and the car still could be rolled onto the trailer.

The 1/8 Mi. track was no-prep last night and the car ran a best of 7.06 at 99.75 MPH. While I was building the car I found an online racing calculator that said at the expected weight and HP the car would run slightly under 7.00 at about 100 MPH, so I guess it wasn't too far off. Needless to say there are a lot of cars a lot faster than mine, but I'm pretty happy and now we can concentrate for consistency for bracket racing.

I have a question? where ts everyone, and why is there no one posting. I for one like to see what others are doing and how they are doing it.

Valid question. I have tried to keep up in "Your builds" section but hardly get any responce there.

I, for one, basically only check for "posts since last visit" occasionally. Usually, I just go directly to the "front engine dragster" section for posts of interest specifically to FED's.

I've been around cars, motorcycles and airplanes on and off my whole life but I'm usually on forums to ask questions. Perhaps I should branch out a bit more. I still seem to have more questions than answers but I'd be happy to try to contribute and participate more. I can certainly say this forum has been a great help and motivation throughout the build of my FED.

As far as the "build" section, I didn't start a thread on my FED build. I never remember to take photos and never wanted to clog the forum with every detail of my build. Also, I'm not very computer and smart phone literate and have to re-learn how to downsize photos every time I want to post one.

I just realized that since my car has been to the track for some testing I could add more info to my profile. It's no longer just a conversation piece in my shop, it's a race car! 8)

All that said, this forum has been a huge asset and help to me!
