Title: running smaller dose on nitro
Post by: wideopen231 on August 19, 2021, 02:15:12 PM
After weekend working on  TA/D A fuel car a nd precautions to keep from getting bolwn up. I got to wondering how I have gotten by with cranking car on alky and just htting nitro/alk mix. I have not blown lines out after shut down. Not that I have run car with with it except playing or at show I did cpl months ago.
I msu have heard 2 dozen stories of explosion from even small amount of nitro. One that made me wonder was about using nitro jug for alky. Seems they used  a nitro jug that had been fully drained for their alky and when firing car it blew gaskets out and almost caught guy in heap.Personally I think something else happened.

Anybody here who has run small amounts say 25% or less ever had issue with nitro being in cylinder or lines causing probelm?

I have never had any issues at 47%. I ground the mag after a pass, pull the plugs when back in the pits and let it air out. I always start cranking the engine with the ignition off then flip it on. When I warm it on nitro I pull the fuel shut off and continue running it on my methanol startup drip tank to purge the nitro. Bad things can happen, I just try to not be one of those stories. I think your nitro/alky jug story needs “the rest of the story”.
