What are your thoughts about bolt together converters? Are there any real benefits from them or are they just to expensive compared with the positive features they have?
Are there any bolt together 8" converters available?

If you are running in a NHRA comp class on tour, with knowlege and a drawer full of parts it can be a useful tool

Just about all of the Comp guy's are using a billet bolt together 7 inch converter ! If you have about 4 grand to spend that will get you a converter and another couple of thousand for different stators !

Two main advantages to my A-1 Alum 2 pc converter is lighter= less rotating weight, and easy to change stall/ flash by just changing the stator, can be done at the track.
Also keep in mind you can then sell all your steel 1 pc converters, to help cover the extra cost. I had 4 steel converters in our trailer, now just a couple of stators. One converter for alitude [ Salt Lake City @ 4400', 7600' DA], another one for our Hemi, actually two, another one for bad weather [ hot, humid] and another to try a looser converter.
I just called A-1 to get the stator that came close to my main steel converter, I did find the Alum 2 pc was a bit tighter than my steel one using the same part #.
Depending on how many converters you own, and how much changes you want try.
I can see how Bruce is not interested in Alum 2 pc when he only races 7.0 Pro, and doesn't want to go faster/ quicker.

I run a 9-inch bolt together converter in my Camaro. Aside from the advantages of being able to change stall speed, you also have the ability to clean the converter at the track in the event you have a transmission failure and need to put in a new transmission. TSI has 8-inch and 9 inch bolt together converters available at a fairly reasonable price right around the $1,300 mark. these can be built to your spec and shipped straight to you.

That sounds very interesting!
I have been looking at regular converters from BTE and TSI and they are around $950.
The differances up to $1300 is about what my locla converter guy takes for opening a welded converter to clean and inspect it.
