Title: Powerglide Sluggish in reverse--help
Post by: dusterdave173 on May 03, 2016, 04:52:46 PM
car is running great! I have a transbrake but never use it--no solenoid even-- I love foot braking! Ok car is running best ever but I noticed in the pits this sat it was sluggish backing up--Well pits were on incline, have a 6000 stall etc so no big deal--when I get home I tried again and it backs up just no guts on reverse--guessing there is a problem--fluid OK--
My question is this
I have big race coming up--will be making maybe 3-4 runs  can i postpone yanking the trans or???
I mean in a glide reverse does not effect anything else so......
Dan??

Not Dan,but IMO.With simplicity and low cost of reairing glide it would be no brainer to yank it and check and probably replace reverse clutchs. What if you make final,do burn out and it don't want to back up? Yea someone can push you back but why risk it?

Well not knowing the time frame you are working in, I personally would work to pull it and fix it before running it again. Yes you probably could get through a short race of 3 or 4 passes but why chance it.

Been working two jobs hard as I can so it was issue of time not $$--exhibition race maybe three runs?
But...Begged two days off and will be swapping her out yahoo!
Another question
Have 8 inch converter that is crazy loose ( no tach so can't tell you but..) you can't even hear it drop any at gear change--running  5.60 122MPH  all good!! So I have another 8 inch I am sure is tighter than this one
Should I put the tighter one in or keep on with what I have  Guess question is   122 MPH ok MPH? or am I giving away the farm with crazy loose converter  I feel like one in car is around 6000 and think one I have on shelf will do around 5200-5500 with my TQ and HP car weight etc based on what it did in car I got it from
THANKS!!!

Were is your shift? 122@5.60 is normal. I run high 60s @119ish a light dragster should be 1000 to 1200 rpms below the shift point your numbers tell me you must be close. I feel the other converter would be to tight.
