Front Engine Dragsters / Re: 7.0 and nitro
« on: November 22, 2022, 03:24:49 PM »
I know in my injected 408 Chrysler Wedge, 10% gave me a .10 in the 1/4 mi. and 18% gave me 2 .10's, 10% was no change to anything, timing, fuel jetting or converter. That 18% wanted a tad more fuel and it was pushing the converter pretty hard. 14.2:1 compression Ross pistons, GRP rods, steel 383 crank, indexed and cut down for SBC big end, Indy 440-1C heads, Indy stack injection that had been heavily modified (from Indy, it would either idle or run flat out, wouldn't do both) MSD 7AL-3 box with the MSD 2 amp coil.

I'd say a wing starts working at around 175 mph, but less than that, it's just a billboard.

Defiantly pull for brake, on a fast car, your weight could push the brake a lot harder than you want and get you into trouble.  Also a good place for fuel shutoff or parachute release.

Electric remote water pump, large Hayden tranny cooler will do you just fine running alcohol.

Funny Cars / Funny Car Chaos
« on: November 26, 2021, 06:27:19 AM »
If you live anywhere in the Midwest, have a funny car (or an altered and looking for a funny car body), you need to check out Funny Car Chaos.  Run what you brung, qualify into 8 car fields, A, B, and if the car count is there, C. Alcohol or nitro, blown or injected, its there for everyone, there is even a nitrus funny car running in the circuit.

Skunk Rat, sounds like a launch rpm or converter issue.  If you are launching at more than 1000 rpm under your stall, that could be the issue, allowing the converter to flash to much.  The other possible issue could be how tight your stator is.  If you have a bolt together converter (recommended) that is an easy change.

I second lose that diagonal, wrong place for it, in the bay behind the transmission is OK, but not where you want to drop the tranny, unless it is removable style.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Front Tires Popping out of the Beams.
« on: October 08, 2021, 04:40:54 PM »
Lot's of information needed: How far out is the engine (axle centerline to back of block), What stall converter, What transmission, What gear ratio, What size slicks, What length chassis, Lowering your launch rpm with increase converter shock and will increase the tendency to pull the wheels out of the beams, a good launch requires wheel speed. Lots of things come into play, a converter that is to tight will tend to allow for dead hook, Wrong size slicks, or rearend gear ratio will also cause it. Balance of the car (this is where how far the engine is out in relation to chassis length comes into play.

Running that low of timing in a SBC, I bet your main is fat.  That motor would be happier in the 36* - 40* of timing and leaned out main.

You do know that once the filters come out of the sealed bags, they are only good for 30 days, right?

Electronic ignition has more power available at low rpm, and tend to fall off at high rpm, where a mag is weaker at low rpm, and gets stronger as the rpms climb, which is why they are great in boosted applications. Use one with a MSD Grid, and you have a very adjustable ignition system.

Roo Man's Room / Re: How much ballast needed on a 60's FED?
« on: September 13, 2017, 05:48:33 AM »
To large of a slick is a common problem with a FED having a launch problem. They work better with a narrower slick, especially if the engine is back.

Don't forget that MSD will say nothing was wrong with the box (which now works) but still charge you for the trouble of looking at it.

It should, but you might have to add some bars, and might have to mount the wing differently.
