Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Getting Closer
« on: March 06, 2023, 03:40:52 PM »
Depending on your intake, the rear water ports in the head need to be vented (burped) to make sure there isn't any air trapped. If the intake has a rear water crossover, great, if not, drill and tap for 1/8" pipe and get a part of AN to 1/8" pipe fittings and a pair of AN caps.  When filling the cooling system, crack the AN caps open and let the system burp the air out.

I've seen a lot of people have good luck with the 10.5 or 10.5W slicks on their FED's.

The slips just let the car think it is longer wheelbase than what it is, better weight transfer.  If it would have been moving right off the launch, I would suspect the wheelie bar of steering the car, the fact that it happens past the 60' mark usually means the rearend is driving the car that way.  One other thing you can do is swap sides with your slicks, if runout isn't equal that will drive the car also. If you find that is the problem, run the shorter slick 1 psi. higher. Or, pump it up to 40 psi and set it in the sun for an afternoon, that will make it grow some.

Looks like the car wants to pull left, except for that last video. one trick is to put an adjustable diagonal in the floor of the last bay (between midplate and rear axle). You can take that diagonal and by tightening or loosening, stop a car from pulling left or right.

Put on your firesuit, gloves and helmet, sit in the car and see what and where you can reach. That will determine where you put your switches. You can even tab them off a diagonal tube on the side of the car. Put them where you can get to them easily blind folded.

The other reason for the cutoff switch up by the battery and using a cable is weight, and simplicity.

Centerline of the axle, not camshaft.  Tether must be a 1/2" diameter pin or bolt, so your tabs need to be strong enough to prevent that pin from pulling through.

Not the cheap fix, but angle plug heads make that problem go away.

Long end of the 45 on bottom when sliding smaller tube into larger tube. When doing diagonals, use a 1/4" shim to keep them off the main rails and just on the uprights (also to get a full 360* weld on the tube.

Have you looked on Racing Junk? Are you just running hat nozzles, or are you running hat and port nozzles?

Knowing fuel flow at any given rpm is better information than pressure is!

Anybody that flows pumps (or has a flow chart from a pump being flowed) you should be able to make easy calculations from it.  A flow chart will compare flow rate to rpm, so take your reduction percentage into rpm and match that to the graph and you'll have your new flow numbers.

Lake_harley, Yes, Gateway is now WWT Raceway, home was really MAR in Wentzville, but since it is no more.  S&W's plans may not have that box crossbared, but if you ever get a wild and wooly run you'd wish it was.  I had a 68 Woddy Gilmore car that was 165" with the engine still way back (had to run a shorty Glide and cut the couplers down to make it fit. Fun ride much more than the Cadillac I have now.  A friend has a 145" digger with a 32 Bantom body on it, stack injected Chevy, short wheelie bar, sometimes has a mind of its own.

lake_harley,  looks nice, what wheelbase? You might want to put a diagonal in your small tube box to keep the upper and lower rails from kinking in the future, don't trust just the engine and mid mount to do it alone.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Injection Alky Vs. Carb Gas

If you want to keep it simple but look cool, a tunnel ram with a hat, or a pair of Ron's 4-shooters with a Hilborn style dual quad scoop fits the bill. Easy to tune, positive pressure vs the venturi effect that a carb is.
