Wanted to sell / FED roller for sale in Texas
« on: January 01, 2017, 10:29:58 AM »
Too many cars in the building, need to start thinning the herd a bit . . .

225" FED, built by Kevin Sine (Troublemaker) out of Florida

18 1/2" shoulder bar, 37 1/2" bottom of the seat to underside of the bar.

We have a Blown BBC / glide in it now, but it ran with a SBC in SWJFA (Willie Brainerd out of Tulsa)

9" with aluminum Strange center section, 4.56, with 40 spline axles, dual master cylinders, old school front wing, new front wheels / tires from Jon Hayden, diaper, dual chutes, both SBC and BBC motor mounts, 12" slicks and ConvoPros

Kevin ran 6.96 201 with a blown 496 BBC when he had it.

$7500.00

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: 4 port hilborn parts.

MAKE SURE and pin or set screw (or some other way) secure the Hilborn arms to the shafts.

Wish I had a nickel for every time I saw a Hilborn slip the arm on the shaft and the motor tune is gone.

FWIW, Enderle makes a splined shaft that will fit the 4-port Hilborn with only slight elongation of the butterfly holes.

We put an Enderle BV on our gasser and it worked out great . . . .

Take care, K

My friend O.B Murphy makes the air kits and helmets for the Drag Boat guys.  He may have something or a solution for this problem.

I am guessing that you are looking to keep the original BV but what we have seen and done is put an Enderle BV on it.

I think all of the fuel racers did it back in the day so it would run right and tune easier.

Also for our upright Hilborn 4-port racers, Jim at Enderle has a butterfly shaft for one of their units that will fit the Hilborn 4-port with only minor slotting of the butterflies.  The splined shaft is superior!!

Take care, K

Pete would never do this . . . , so I will . . . . !!

Pete and his Dad, Robert, are legendary Ford racers in this part of the country.  Hard racers who have done it all.

Can't wait to see this thing hit the dragstrip . . !!

Spud Miller's Cave / 6 cyl Vertex Mag ID
« on: February 24, 2016, 06:16:14 AM »
Spud, does this look like a mag for a 235 - 261 Chevy???

Missing the drive gear, but the shaft is drilled for it.

Thanks, K

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: propolen oxide
« on: February 10, 2016, 10:55:26 PM »
We used to sell a bunch of it to the local comp eliminator guys who were looking for that last thousandth>

It is such a strong oxidizer that it would precipitate the lead out of the race gas and send it to the bottom of the fuel tank>

At ten percent in alcohol would really wake up the motor

Air Flow = Fuel Flow with a carb.

That why too big won't run.

With MFI, not think it an issue if (like Spid said) you can keep it driveable and will idle.

And on the scoop deal, read once that a forward facing scoop was worth like 1.2 psi at speed, does that hurt anything??

Take care, K

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Toluene and % Nitro
« on: January 26, 2016, 06:09:49 PM »
When we ran Ed Hill's BFH drag boat (World Record Holder several times over . . . ), we would run 9 oz of Methanol and 9 oz of Benzine in a 5 gal jug of 100%.

Big told Ed to do the Benzine deal . . . .

I know . . , super carcinogen these days, back then also, I guess!!!

Can't even buy it now.

Always by volume (broke the floater . . . ) but the fuel check beaker was where the 9 oz came from.

Also . . . , here is the chemical proof of what does what in Nitro (courtesy Bob Higginson - Surfers Face Book Page.

I don't think 14.9 compression is too high for 20-25% nitro, I know a SWJFA guy picked-up .20 with 20%.
14.9 is too high for high % nitro.

Have Fun !

Jon, Hayden Wheels

What Jon says . . . . . . !!

Got a local guy that picked up a tenth with 10%-12% and a little fatter main.

Call this a wild idea, but we had a customer car doing exactly this same thing.

Chased it a good bit, found the converter fins were standing up and killing the middle of the run, K
