Jon's Wheel House / D2585 Goodyear 31x12x15, and D1288 GY 33x12x15
« on: January 12, 2019, 12:52:00 AM »
If any racers want any D2585 Goodyear 31x12x15 slicks or D1288 GY 33x12x15 I need to hear from you so I know how many to special order from Goodyear. they don't stock or build these two sizes with out at least a 100 tire order each. I have ordred 3 times since 2013. contact me ASAP so I know how many tires you want and will commit for. You don't have to pay when you order now just when I ship them.
So think about how many tires you would like for the next 2-3 years. The last time they built these two sizes was my special order in 2016. I hope to get the shipment in spring of 2019.
BTW Hayden Wheels is a GoodYear Race tire dealer and I can get other sizes of slicks but not these two without a specaial order.

Jon's Wheel House / tire shake
« on: July 23, 2018, 12:48:02 PM »
Our last experience with traction, tires, and track.
Our last JF Heritage race in Sacramento we had some bad tire shake, enough so we had to weld up a cross member just in front of the fuel tank, and more important we twisted our rear axles and could not get replacements in time to race the Div 7 race this past week-end in Sonoma. We know it was tite shake because just before going to Sac, we changed rear gears and the axles looked great, but after the race where we shook so bad we crossed the center line, too bad too because Matt, our driver had a great hole shot.
Now I might have been able to make a last minute change if had been a liitle smarter, the run just in front of us in the same lane was Don Enriquez had the worst tire shake . So I should have had our crew quickly lowered the tire pressure 1/2 lb [ on my 33x12x15 GY] to increase tire spin [ to 5 1/2 lb] , instead of dead hooking and tire shake. The track was real sticky on the start line [ I had to fight walking out of my shoes].
The track ran jet cars before JF raced , and I think the track might have over prepped the track [ a bit too much VHT], after running the jet cars.
I just talked to a JF car that just raced Sonoma, and he had tire shake too, and at Goodyears suggestion, he kept raising the pressure to 7lb on his 31x12x15 Goodyears, there-by making the sidewall stiffer, but he still had tire shake. All this lower-raise pressure is confusing because my experience has been , with no bead locks, if I'm looking for more traction [ less tire speed] I raised the pressure to get the tire flatter across the tread, and if I'm looking for more tire speed I lower the pressure, and that concaves the center of the tire , there by the traction is running more on the edges of the tire.
To confirm that idea after the run I run my infared temp gun across the tread and see that the tread is hotter at the edges, and cooler in the middle. The reason we want more tire speed is to make sure the tires doesn't get too much traction and pull the engine down below the HP/RPM range.  My GY guy also suggested I should have lowered to pressure after seeing Enriquez tire shake, and he also is seeing more tracks over prepping the tracks.
We may have to try smaller tires, but I have tried 33x10.5x15 MT but they didn't run as good an ET, but better 60' times. THe 10.5 door car tires have stiffer sidewalls and don't grow with speed like the 31x12x15 GY.
Feedback is invited.

Bang Shift, com in the past had a live steam on the Bowling Green Reunion, but I don't see it now.
Does anyone know if they will be there this year ? DRC is not posting any results, yet.
Maybe someone from FED.org could post on this site when they can.

Thank You

Wanted to sell / GoodYear 33x12x15 D1288 & 31x12x15 D2585
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:17:45 AM »
These new slicks are on the GoodYear truck headed for NHRA  national events, Englishtown, Epping, Bristol, Norwalk, Chicago, Indy, St Louis, and some Div races. If you bring your wheels to any of these races, they can mount and balance your new tires.
Call me, 805-444-4489, or Email me jchansen60@gmail.com if any of you want them, I have already paid GoodYear for them.
If you are not going to these races, I can ship them too.
Another GoodYear truck will have these tires on the Western swing, starting with Denver.
Thanks for looking,
Jon, Hayden Wheels

Wanted to sell / Taking Orders for GoodYear 31x12x15 & 33x12x15 slicks
« on: November 19, 2014, 12:40:38 PM »
In 2012 GoodYear put some tires on an "inactive" list with no production date. When I found out that GY would make another batch of these light weight, 22.6 lb ea, 31x12x15 D2585, IF we gave them an order for at least 150 tires. So with some help I pre-sold 180 tires and gave the order to GoodYear at the 2013 WinterNationals, and we received them in Aug-Sept. I thought that would hold us for 2-3 years, BUT no we are out of inventory, and I'm getting many calls for another order. At the World Finals, GoodYear did say they have a window in their 2015 production schedule that they could make another 150 tires. So if any of you want in on these tires, Please Email, call me, 805-444-4489, jchansen60@gmail with how many tires you might need for the next two years.
I'm also getting calls for another "inactive" tire D1288, 33x12x15, so I'm working on another 150 tire order for these.
