Title: Injection recommendation??
Post by: tcoupekyle on January 12, 2021, 12:55:25 PM
I been starting to build a small block. Got an insane good deal on a 434 short block. But the choices come now. I have a dyers 6/71 nothing too special there.
But what cam? What compression? What head?
And the biggest question what enderle injection?
Was thinking 12 to 1? No idea on cam and was thinking bug catcher but I really have no idea... Any input? I'm sure this been asked again and again but well... Here I am

Oh and it's going in a dragster weighed 1600 with a BBC (big chief headed) in it.  I don't really want to run water either.
Tryna put it together on a budget. But I need to know what to be hunting too.

Yes alcohol

Bug catcher will flow all the air you can use and little easier to install simply because you do not have to fight with those two bolts inside the front. Both Bug and Bird will work fine and easy enough to tune. I have both and the hat is just an air valve your tuning is really done with the fuel.

I have learned a lot about tuning them and glad to help you if you have any questions.

Thank you so much!
I suppose I'll start hunting a bug catcher!

Injected or carburetor on alky I would go as high of compression you can obtain 14-1 should be super easy 15-1 if you can get it

Really? Plan is to be injected yes. I think I could easily obtain compression that high.

Paul,
Man everywhere else I see people saying with a blower not to run compression over 12. This block is zero decked and I have a set of 2 eyebrow flat tops. I was thinking I'd have to buy new Pistons because it seems even with a 72cc head my compression yields 12 something to 1.

I am not a big fan of really high compression I think the gains are rather minimal over 13 and the tuning window gets smaller. With a blower I would go with less compression like 11 or 12.  One of the reasons is I can tip the can more with lower compression if needed.

I gotcha I mean with a 75cc head I'm still at 12.2. those numbers will change when I actually have a set of heads and can really measure. But this piece of information makes me comfortable in buying a head with a big chamber vs. buying Pistons to lower compression.

Oh xxxx I read this way to fast and missed the 6-71 part yes do not go that high my bad!!!

I run 10.5-1 on my 387” AJPE SBC.  I would stay in that range you have a pretty large tuning window.  I do know when I was running 23 degree stuff I ran up to 11.2-1. My old canted valve 387” was 10.5-1 also Greg Means ran this combo and I believe he still has the heads and intake for sale they make big power real easy.

How quick are you wanting to go?  I have always run pretty similar grinds 280-292@.050 114LC and anywhere from .720 to .780 lift

Awesome! What's he asking for the setup?
The big block had 1000hp I'd like to be around as much as I can make with this. 😂😂😂

Any hat will work fine. The bug might be harder to find second hand, I use to be able to get them everywhere .  Bird probably easiest to find. I like the bug for lots of reason. easier to see around and over. Just looks nostalgic. Plus was first injection I had. Bug flows 2300 cfm and bird twice that. My old bug was most consistent thing I have ever run. If new to injection keep a simple setup and it is easiest thing in the world to tune.

I ended up with a bird and a new blower and an enderle 80a pump
