Hello Guys:)
What is the best type/brand of Silicon/liquid gasket?
I have tried a couple, PM and Wurth RTV. The PM are desolving when exposed to methanol and Oil mix. The RTV seals, but the parts are hard to take appart( to much glue).

We have used Permatex ultra grey with good results. For the last several years we have used Permatex The Right Stuff (black) with great results concerning oil, alky and nitro mix. We used it on modern top fuel in the 4 corners of the block-heads to seal the intake-blower manifold. I use it now to hold just about all my gaskets in place. Oil pan gasket is a favorite place for me also. On my small block it is the only thing I use for the intake end seals. I like the pressurized can version.

Have been using Permatex for 30 plus years.Heck Im still working on small truck load they sent us in 94.Never had problem.

I use RightStuff. I'm convinced after allowing it to cure, intake bolts are no longer required. It is amazing stuff. I deal with the crazy adhesion to know it won't leak.

I'm a fan of Permatex Right Stuff too, but I refrain from using it everywhere. Once cured, it's a bitch to get it apart later.

Thanks guys:) Then I will try the Permatex Ultra Grey:)

I have found Ultra Grey and Ultra Black work great! They are the most OIL RESISTANT
RTV's I have found--I build about 30 engines a year and have found these to be easy to find. I have never used The Right Stuff but I hear from many builders it is a killer product.
Many of the Circle track guys use a product that is more like windshield urathane than RTV--I am not sure what brands--It will hold an intake or oil pan without the bolts--you almost ruin the pans getting them off--I hate that stuff but...you will never have a leak that knocks you out of a race.
All of it is way overpriced IMO--My RTV bill per month is close to the light bill

Ford sells some silicone made for the 7.3 Diesel engine, great stuff

Ultra black for me . I buy it in the cheeze wiz container . I know it is hard to get it apart but it never leaks !

I use high tack and ultrablack have for years works great.

This is a topic that gets 'sticky' anywhere is posted.
Here's a link to a 15-page (and counting) discussion at the Yellowbullet forum:

PS.: I don't have a problem with silicone, but, conditions permitting, I prefer them au naturel. Call me a purist if you want. ;-)

I can't understand the Silicone haters--used in the right way in the right place it is a wonder product--I can't dream of returning to corks under intake ends can you??
My dad retores Model A Fords last 50 years--he HATES silicone and never uses it --on that application he is right --do it old school--he is a Fink for perfect clean no burr gasket surfaces--won't even allow paint on gasket surface--butthe threads that hate on the goo puzzle me---I love the stuff!!!!

I think the problem is the extreme over usage of RTV, not just an outright hate of the stuff. It gets slathered on way to heavily in a lot of applications, some that wouldn't even need it. If you've got dingleberries of the stuff hanging out after you tighten the parts together, you're using it wrong.
