Front Engine Dragsters / Tranny supports?
« on: January 21, 2024, 10:55:59 AM »
New build, trying to figure everything out.  Got a 200" frame, w/alky 555 BBC and 2 speed glide.  My question is do most people use a conventional support for the trans running across the frame rails, or no support at all?  I've talked to some guys who said they run a support bar inline with the trans, rearend and motor to prevent frame flexing.  The trans is set up to be bullet proof and is extremely heavy and seems too much weight to be hanging off the motor plate without a cross support of some sort.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Spud Miller's Cave / Magneto signal conversion:
« on: April 10, 2022, 10:30:42 AM »
Putting together a new 200" with a 555 Kinsler injection setup.  Trying to keep the car  non complicated as can be.  I have a refurbished magneto (vertex) and have been told/and read that FIE has a voltage  converter to run a tach, and dash lights etc.  I don't plan on run a starting battery right now, but am open to the 20V dewalt style if its not super complicated.  Can you reccomend the FIE parts ,accessories and switches I would need to convert the mag signal to usable voltage on the car?  Would like to buy it all as one package at the same time.  Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Initial engine install:
« on: January 08, 2022, 11:36:39 AM »
I'm installing the engine for the first time in a new 200"frame.  The motor is hanging and the rear of the engine is snugged up to the rear motor plate.  I'm fabricating the front motor supports to rest on the frame.  My question is should I have zero flex on the frame from the engine weight, or do I want some pre flex?  The motor is hanging level in the car as it sits on the tires.  Is this where I need to get my measurements for the front supports of the motor?
Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Gear oil and tranny/rear end support
« on: November 11, 2019, 03:52:47 PM »
Looking to see what people run for rear gear oil?  I have a Ford 9" with Mark Williams third member with the big pinion support.  Also, I spoke with a few drivers who recommended a solid bar or support running from the third member forward to the tranny some place to reduce flexing between the two.  Is this something that everyone else does? Thanks in advance.

Front Engine Dragsters / fORD 9" full floater
« on: November 26, 2018, 12:48:21 PM »
Just looking for some basic advice to get started.  Having David Beard finishing my new 200" FED.  I choose a full floater 9" rearend, because I'm comfortable with them from dirt car racing.  Question: Aluminum or steel third member housing?  Do I install the plugs to keep the oil inside the center section?  Any good advice or lessons learned from full floaters?
Thanks
