Gassers / 61 Falcon
« on: November 13, 2019, 10:18:37 AM »
After selling my FED, I needed something to keep me busy. I bought this a few months ago. I intend to build a street legal ride with a mild SBC. Going to keep it very simple and use what old parts I have in the shop. Some will be period correct and some won't.
I found a 8.5 posi rear with 3.42 gears so I used it. Installed with Competition Engineering slapper bars and fresh shocks. Still lots to do.
Working on front now.

I'm guessing no one is allowed to post to this thread. Not sure what happened.   :(

Front Engine Dragsters / FED & Transbrake
« on: May 07, 2019, 02:08:01 PM »
Ok guys, I've had my FED for sale for a while. No one has bought it yet. So I'm thinking about taking it out and using the transbrake this time around. I have methanol stack fuel injection. What's the best way to approach this? Set the two step and floor it? I need to take out a bit of frustration! lol

« on: September 27, 2018, 07:09:13 AM »
Looking for a MSD 8950 RPM activated switch. I'm wanting to use it with a shift light. Just checking if someone has a unit that's no longer needed.:)

Spud Miller's Cave / Stack Injector Net
« on: August 07, 2018, 11:25:25 AM »
What are you guys using for a injector net? Is there nets already made, or do I need to get one made? If I have to make it, what material should I use. I can have my upholstery guy sew one up.

I want to be able to use the net during burnouts. Take off before run. Like Forest Gump says, sometimes there are too many rocks! :)

Front Engine Dragsters / Starting Battery Setups/Carts
« on: August 05, 2018, 12:30:15 PM »
Looks like I'm going to have to make a battery cart with quick connects to start my injected FED. What voltages are be used? Former owner of my car uses 24vdc to spin it over quickly. Pic's of your setup would be nice. It will give me ideas on what I need to build.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Water manifold
« on: July 06, 2018, 11:27:22 AM »
I bought this Moroso manifold. I've been staring at it for hours trying to figure out how I'm going to make it work. It came with #8 hoses. I could machine some type of bracket but, I hate hanging stuff that doesn't look right. I'm wanting to run water in the block only.  Any ideas?

Spud Miller's Cave / Fuel Hose Type
« on: June 26, 2018, 07:31:50 AM »
I'm having to run a flex type hose for my methanol fuel system. I'll be using 12AN hose from tank to pump. I can use stainless or the Phenix nylon braided hose. Is there any advantage of either? I would think the phenix would be a little lighter and somewhat more flexible. Thoughts?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / SBC Enderle Cover
« on: June 14, 2018, 03:47:55 PM »
I couldn't find a Hilborn cover so I bought a SBC Enderle timing cover for cam/pump drive. I have a 6 3/4 balancer and I don't think it's going to work. Looks like I'll need to buy the 5.80 balancer. Will I also need to get a pump drive extension (2"-3") to clear the waterman pump and the fuel valves? I want to mount the primary,hi-speed returns, fuel in and shutoff direct off the pump. Looks like its going to be a tight fit.

I don't have the pump yet. Should be here by next week.

Front Engine Dragsters / Driving suit
« on: June 10, 2018, 08:58:43 PM »
I was looking at the driver equipment needed for a FED in the NHRA rule book. Looks like I will need to buy a SFI 3.2A/15 suit. What are the best places to purchase the suit and other safety equipment I'll need?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / 6AL Enough?
« on: June 01, 2018, 07:39:08 PM »
So it's time for me to buy the ignition system. I'm thinking of using a MSD85551 locked out and a 6AL box. All I will need is the rev limiter. I'll be using a carb on gas for a few runs (no cooling system). Then I want to switch to my Hilborn stack setup on methanol. What are the thoughts of using the 6AL with methanol? Will it be enough?

Wanted to buy / Hilborn Nozzles/Drives
« on: April 26, 2018, 08:06:29 PM »
Looking for Hilborn 12AS-14AS 1/2-20 set of eight.
Timing cover, gear set and pump drive. SBC. Might also need a pump extension to clear balancer.
Also a good pump, Waterman 400, 80A-1/2

Have a set of 20AS that I dont need. Anything out there? Finding these parts or buying new will complete my fuel system.

Roo Man's Room / Tube removal
« on: March 30, 2018, 12:14:30 PM »
I have a Jr. Fuel car that had a mini battery just for the electronics. I'm needing to use a larger battery for self starting. There is a tube crossing the battery box. The tube was a add on by someone. You can see where the paint was removed to weld it in. Do you think the tube is needed? Can I remove it so a larger battery will fit?

Your Builds / Photo Gallery / Ed Mabry 71 Jr. Fuel
« on: March 29, 2018, 08:26:47 PM »
This is my new to me FED. It's my first. It was built by Ed Mabry in 1971. I know some of its history but, not all. I'm going to build a simple 355 at first and see how that works out. It has a current 7:50 cert too.

I'll post up a bit as I go.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Basic 355 combo
« on: March 28, 2018, 02:42:52 PM »
I bought a 179wb Jr.Fuel roller. I want to set it up with a carb, gas and zoomies. I'm not really concerned how quick it is. I just want to have fun. It will also only run the 1/8 mile and is my first FED.

I would think the all up weight with driver is around 1500#. Not sure on this just a guess. The drivetrain specs are 4:86 gear, 31" tire, 1:76 glide.

I have a forged and balanced 355 flattop .005 deck short block. The cam I'm looking at is a Howards 112072-06. Specs out at 246/246 @ .050, 515/515 lift @ 1.5 ratio/ 549 @ 1.6 ratio, 106 on 102. 3200-6700 range. I have a std Victor Jr. 2975 and 750 carb.

For heads I have a choice of
 Performer RPM @ 2.02/1.6/170cc port/72cc chamber. DCR 7.52 static 9.22
World products S/R 1.94/1.5/ 170cc port/58cc chamber DCR 8.74 static 10.76
Engine Quest vortec style 1.94/1.5 170cc/64cc chamber DCR 8.26 static 10.15

I have the Performer RPM heads. The other heads were what I'm looking at. Does this combo look to be somewhere close? Any suggestions on which heads and compression to use?
