Ive got mine in a thousand peices right now. Motors pulled and getting ready for some new aluminum heeads, along with the tranny getting freshened right now. Its time for a new chassis cert due next month so thats on my list too. Its about 50 degrees in the garage right now so I am just waving at it today. Tomorrow when it warms some I will pull the harness out and get it ready for a reweb at Stroud. And then pull the old heads off the motor prepping for the change over.

Gathering parts, going from stack injection to a blower, going from electronic ignition to a Mallory mag.  So, lot's of changes in the works.

I feel you pain or pleasure depending on how you look at it. I'm going from normal asperation to blown and doing mechnical injection at the same time (Spud has the fuel system right now)

Looking for a 2 speed with reverse, Lenco or B & J transmission, for my AA/FA which I am collecting parts for.  Once I find the transmission, I will bug Rooman once again for the build !....

Just found this site… Thanks to an on line friends recommendation. Finally a site with an altered forum..  I am building a new 565 for mine this winter, which has entailed a new trans build, a gear change and a complete rear end rebuild with several other changes. So mine is hand grenaded all over the garage, but slowly going back together.

I have spent over 10 hours this weekend just getting the heads on and setting up the new T&D rockers. These things are nice, but a pain to set up. Not really anything wrong with the rockers, but you have to put them on and off about a hundred times to get everything just the way you want. I hope to have the motor finished by next weekend if I can get the push rods I need here by mid week….

Can’t wait for the season to start….. I am sick of snow

I went and got my glide out of tranny jail tonight, all fresh and ready to go. Now it's back in the car Saturday to tack the broken lower tranny mount in place, take tranny back out, then take the chassis to the tig welder for the repair. A little side track with this hidden surprise, but what can you do.

Ive been fighting this new brake set up. Ford center section, Dana tubes and flanges, and GM bolt pattern for the wheels with current GM Vette calipers and rotors. I am changing it all to a Wilwood set up. Of coarse its all for a Ford in the kit.

I did have the chassis recertified this morning though and that's A-OK.

Had a break in the weather yesterday, high of 58, good enough to at least try and start the car. Ive made a lot of changes to the car so I was hesitant it was even going to start. Fired right up like a champ. Its got a lean condition ive got to work out, it can be heard at about 3.12 in the video. Close now, body goes on this week and hopefully a T&T on the 20th, fingers crossed. OMG have I gotta lose some weight. Maybe the camera added 40 lbs to me, NOT !

Thanks for the updates Flyingdutchmanfc. I know the pain of being a one-man-band. Your setup looks very cool, including the garage. That's a healthy mouse you've got there.

Nice sounding motor, I wish my alarm clock could play that in the mornings.

Got the body on the car and the trailer stocked and ready to go. Finally getting warm now but it needs to stop raining. Set up for Wednesday for T&T and my license runs so I can get legal to run at a good track. Its rained for the last couple days and is supposed to quit for Wednesday. Fingers are crossed. Its been a long wait for the weather to break to even go to the track, crazy summer so far.

Made it out for a good day. It was license testing day. Had a huge jetting issue going on with all the changes I made through the winter. Major stumble at first, I got it working better but still had a slight stumble at the hit. I also was running foot brake passes, a little trouble with my trans brake solenoid plunger dripping when holding the brake. I still got off a 9.017 @ 154. Since I am only a T&T warrior for the most part so the E.T. license I got is fine for me. It was just the wife and I so it was a long day for us both. Shes a real trooper and I could not have done it without her. Its probably a boring video for a lot here, but its all I got LOL.

Congratulations!!!!!!!

Nothing like your licenses runs. I made my at the very same track. It rained so much here in Rochester, that I gave up waiting and traveled to Indianapolis to get my license. I had RooMan rooting me on (that is him standing just over the top of the scoop)

On my last run it started to rain just after I launched and it go very interesting.

If the rears were not spinning you would see the written on the tire LIC to indicate I was making my licenses runs.

You musty be grinning ear to ear.

Billy is what you would call a little anal ! Did you notice even the decals on the motors have to be exactly the same . We have a lot of fun with him moving his tools around and turning the labels around on his brake clean cans . Both of those motors are 321 cubes the one on the left makes 2.82 hp per cube The one on the right has not been dynoed yet . We think it will be around 2.88 or 2.9 . I really enjoy working with Billy . I get to keep up on all the new technology in comp and deal with some of the best in the buisness.

Billy dose a lot of the work himself so I would have to say right around 35 thou is close . A good set of head's from Slawco or CFE are around 15 k now throw in a manifold for another 4 and you are getting up there! Comp is still my favorite class and I would run it if i could afford to.

We made the drive to Bunker Hill dragway in Indiana Friday. Its Indianas first drag strip opening in 1956, and also the 1st track my 2 dads made their 1st passes at an actual track. It was 1/4 mile until the early 80's but was considered  too short for anything fast with a short shut down. Ive always wanted to take my car there for sentimental sake but its just out of the way and I really have a hard time justifying it when Indianapolis is way closer.

Its a very narrow track with a slim grove, about 1/2 the size of Indy. I decided as I was walking the track with my 2nd dad checking the track condition, and after seeing the look on his face reliving that old track as we walked it. It was probably the best track I could have ran that day, he opened up into a few new stories I had not heard yet, he said the last pass he made there was in 1977  in his funny car. They would not let him run the 1/4 because the car was too fast to get stopped before the corn field, so he cracked off a 4.60 in the 1/8th that day back in 1977.

The track was sticky and very well prepped, my car is slow, ran a 5.90 @ 118 foot breaking the car, but it was a good day for us all. Video below, shaky at first until she sets the camera down.

Kind of cool happening yesterday.  Nitro Jeff, Dr Van, Double A Bob and I were building the Paladin.  We were going to run a set of unpolished Super Tricks and Van says that he has a set of polished ones in his garage. We pulled them down and there are original shipping labels saying ship to Carroll Shelley Enterprises Gardena, CA.

New rules if you are planning to put a wing on your racecar and run with NHRA

For all open wheel/body cars where rear wings are permitted the wing may be fully mounted to the roll cage or frame structure only via plates and/or short brackets; maximum 6-inches center-to-center between the upper (wing tab) and lower (roll cage tab) bolts. Tube type or extended wing stands are prohibited when mounting wings to any components of the driver’s compartment of any SFI specification roll cage."

I have been thinking.Almost always gets me in trouble. Since I made the fed so that the whole front end past motor can be pulled away. Leaving me with motor back. I can build another front end for it and have both altered/roadster and fed. Only thing would be how many altereds do you see with driver behind axle? Could be interesting. Altered with motor 50" out and 220# hanging out back of rearend.Might need co pilot to ride on front end to keep it on ground, any volunteers?

No struts.  The front is directly bolted to the top of the cage.  The rear has a couple inches of adjustments, but no struts.

That wing was built in the early 70's, we reinforced the cm tubing inside.

not much going on with the "DARK SIDE" fuel altered;;drained and cleaned out all fuel lines and backed off the valves for the winter;;trying to figure out what to do with my rear helmet bars;;when my chassis builder[welder]put the new cage on he leaned the 2 rear bars back instead ot straight up like most is done..when I took it out for it's shake down pass ..it thow my head back against bar so I couldn't see front of car and had to let off throttle;;when i'm sitting in car with no padding on cage and helmet on there is 4 1/2" between helmet and cage;;trying to figure out how maybe to build maybe a headrest to take up this space that won't look so gaddy[like xxxx]haven't found any pics of any altered that has a headrest to get ideal from;;I didn't have chine strap on helmet or any type neck support or hans device at that test hit but I did put chinstrap on helmet;;;;;with a chinstrap on helmet and a hans device or a simple neck color solve my issue with the cage gap?what i'm asking is should my head be against the cage before I take off or does the chinstrap and neck support is enough to keep head from snapping back against cage

Harley, the HANS will address that situation and it's probably a good idea to have one anyway. I've never needed a chin strap, the HANS by itself worked for me in both A/F and with the AA/FA. From what I have been told if your head is getting back against the cage it can actually rattle your vision, but I can't speak from experience on that.

Over the last few weekends, I've been doing a couple of projects on my altered, add a shift light and and make a shifter for my powerglide.

On adding a shift light, got all the necessary items for adding a shift light on Vertex magneto motor, the trigger, all brackets and of coarse, the shift light. The only thing that has worked as advertised is the crank trigger, which is from Spud at FIE, everything else needed lots of work, the mounting bracket needed a bracket made so it would work and I'm still having issues with the new tach/shift light combo, tach won't show rpm if the rpm is below the shift set point and I'm on the second combo set, argh! Here's a picture of the FIE crank trigger and the brackets I had to make to hold the store-bought brackets:

The second part was making a new shifter, I had bought and tried a couple and wasn't happy with either one and instead of spending more money on a shifter that probably would not meet my needs, I decided to make my own. I spent a lot of time on my CAD designing the pattern, I wanted something simple but reliable and here's what I came up with, ii is still in the rough mode as I want to make a couple of passes before I finish it up, it's at the bottom of the picture:

The shifter has a spring-loaded nylon block that forces it into the correct position, I'm still working on the reverse lockout.

Anyway, that is what I've been doing on my altered :)

There will be no internal floor on this car, gearbox will be exposed. Full JW powerglide unit, I am thinking that the tech inspectors will require a sealed type floor - hence cover over pan. My thinking about full length belly pan  is to catch any leaking fluids from going on track or tyres or having car shut down. Im talking minor leaks not major ones obviously. Cooling issues could be overcome if required. This is my first race car ( only ever had street cars years ago, about 12 sec) so all advice greatly appreciated.  Glen

We ran a similar tray. After adding the wings the containment was seriously compromised by the notches required. So we changed the pan, added the cooler and a Kevlar engine diaper.

I did the same thing to mine, just a little deeper. I ended up adding at the front edge 3 sloped 1x1x1/8 aluminum angle to strengthen it and keep the front edge from catching anything like my trailer floor when loading the car.

Put a couple of vents in it in front of the engine pan to let air out from between the ground and bottom of frame.  That should help prevent all that flat surface becoming a wing should the car pick up the front end at speed.

Nothing on this section for nearly two years? Ok, I'll bite.
First event of our season is 4 weeks away, motor is still at the shop after a freshen up, should be able to collect in 4 days. We had some extra tubes put in the roll cage & due to crazy circumstances only got the chassis back last week.
So, today I fitted front wheels, brakes, fitted new seals to shutoff valve & barrel valve & re-engineered the throttle pedal.
The driver finished changing the rearend gears, we will be re-assembling the axle tomorrow I hope.

Today the driver & I added some more padding to the roll cage so that after the hit he is still looking down the track & not at the sky.

Also I treated the slicks with 'Grip' softener, at the last event there was not much traction & we are still looking to run our first 7 next weekend.

Assuming that's fixed, we are towing to the track either Thursday pm or Friday am. RWYB on Friday, our class is running Saturday & Sunday at the NSRA 'Hot Rod Drags' at Santa Pod.

I might even get to do my first burnout / trundle down the track on Friday if I can prise the driver out of the seat & convince him I'm not going to break it.
