Front Engine Dragsters / winter upgrades?
« on: January 29, 2024, 08:55:11 PM »
So what are you doing to upgrade racing program this winter?

With the supposed rash of leaks, I had last year that caused me to be shut off online. One changing the spray bar in the intake plenum to insure can not get fuel on butterfly's which caused 4 shutdowns before catching what was being called a leak. New fitting for most all of car. Adding pit cooler for transmission and oil. Rewire to clean up and simplify in case of failure should be easier to correct. Making few changes to the cockpit as far as switches(less to do the same job) and hopefully, new belts will be easier to self-adjust. As always looking for places to cut weight down. New bigger fuel cell not one of them but hopefully get me back to pits. New pushbar for 4 wheeler in case do not make it back.,LOL  New design zoomies are being finished now. (big weight loss). New intake design and bigger pistons will come a little later this year after get a handle on what I have so as to know the difference they hopefully make. Going up .125" bore and adding about 2,5 to 3:1 compression. so only couple things here.

Spud Miller's Cave / down nozzles with MFI
« on: December 23, 2023, 11:08:53 AM »
While I know not allowed in nostalgia competition . Wondering if anyone here has run down nozzle with MFI(no blower)?

Asking because have been wanting to install on my fed.Heads are already setup for it. Plus thinking with alky running thru lines and oil running over outside it should have minor cooling effect on oil temp. The fact it will have a lot of folks wondering where fuel is going to engine has nothing to do with it.LOL

So anyone treid down nozzle with mfi system?

Front Engine Dragsters / sinching lap belt
« on: December 18, 2023, 07:12:14 AM »
Being one man team part of the time. I have no issue with shoulder straps. Lap belts will not sinch after fastened in. They are pull up to tighten type. The problem seems to be angle makes the buckle grip belt tight. Not bad at times that we hope never to see.

Wondering if any others have had a similar issue and what cured it. I have adjusted the belts hkaf dozen times so as to relocate buckle to different locations, but none have freed it up so I can sinch it. IDEAs?

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / tapping into vb for cooler
« on: December 14, 2023, 06:50:24 AM »
I have pit cooler built for car and need to tap into VB so that it will circulate threw converter. I want to double-check what point I tap into it. If memory serves and getting rare nowadays. Sopt I need to tap into is the dead pocket is in rear right corner when VB mounted in car ,   correct or not.

Front Engine Dragsters / getting straight bunrout
« on: November 22, 2023, 11:51:12 AM »
Been having a problem with car going sideways in burnout. Heck been having lots of issues this just one Not LOL.  Everytime I do burnout back end kick to the right almost at the hit. The few runs I had before this year did not have that issue. First are you or have you had same issue? If so what cured it.  Any thoughts as to why the car would walk to the right every time?

I first thought maybe to easy on the throttle in burnout, then remembered I have never been known for being easy on the throttle. Did change that some but no change in burnout. Think both tires are wet since rill through water and back into it and then do burn out.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / compression and bore increase hp gain?
« on: November 07, 2023, 05:05:41 PM »
I have been looking at increasing bore and compression for boost in power over the winter,

Yes I know I will not know how much it is worth w/o some solid runs this year. Few more chances to get that info left,

Going from 4.250 bore to 4.310 or maybe 4.375 with compression increase of 12:1 to 15:1. According to desk top dyno before pc died it is worth 60 to 70 hp. Rather I go with a .250 bigger crank is up in air since requires new rods and the ones in motor are about new. At 150o a set i rather not do both. I could reinstall old rods with 128 runs but that was my change-out point for those in blower motors.
.
So question is agree or disagree with the power gain from bore and increase in compression

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / transmission cooler loc
« on: September 16, 2023, 04:46:19 PM »
Question for the guys running transmission cooler of FED., Location you have the cooler? I have mine under the seat in the rear of the car for multiple reasons, one of which bit me in butt this week. First and one that bit me. If had leak going down track it would not be in front of the tires. Second, is if the cockpit above transmission I was thinking heat off it would be unbearable. Remembering I hate heat,  One thing about in cockpit would be a lot less line. Amy leak would be captured by pig mat I run on floor pan i case of(thats is car not driver).
 So location of cooler?

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / transbake jerking
« on: August 14, 2023, 01:54:50 PM »
Fired casr off to check things over. When applied transbrake. and bringing rpm up. the rear tires were jerking violently and had hard chattering sound while doing so. The tires were moving in forward rotation. Would seem something in reverse either leaking. Looking into the valve to make sure not hanging out out of alignment. other ideas?

Spud Miller's Cave / MFI pressure
« on: August 05, 2023, 05:22:39 PM »
After chat with another member. I got to thinking about pressure on MFI system. I normally run around 150 at 4000 pump rpm. I do so by design. Got to wondering about smaller pumps ablity to with stand higher pressure system. I know of few who broke shafts on older enderle stuff. Most had larger pump than needed and guessing they might have broke  due to pressure cuased by jetting.

Also if have idea of safe pressure for dual gear DSR 7 gpm pump, ? Would like to know that too.

Front Engine Dragsters / controllinh rpm w/o 2 step.
« on: August 01, 2023, 05:47:11 PM »
Does anyone have a good system for controlling rpm w/o using the 2 step? I have a heavy tension stop that allows me to feel when the pedal is hitting it. It is adjustable. Not dead accurate. Probably two issues. The main one is diabetic neuropathy. The second is BV might need to be richened to take out some response. I tried setup 3 times today and the rpm was plus and minus 400, 800 swing got to be too much.

Open to suggestions, except use a two-step which I have and hate with a passion,

Front Engine Dragsters / shifter choice and location
« on: July 29, 2023, 02:50:06 PM »
WSht are you using and what is best location you have found?  I have a tube shifter. Works fine and very compact. While I have solenopid miunted, I do not have any lockout other than slots. Also with collar on I can not look down at it and see where it is gear wise. Amy just move, but like to know what is working for others.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / crank triger versus timing

How close does crank trigger and actual distributor timing have to be. Asking to settle debate. IMO dead nuts the same is ideal, maybe wrong.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Lets talk MFI and engine temps
« on: July 11, 2023, 06:26:55 PM »
We all know engine performance changes with when temps move up if running alky and especailly with MFI.  How much movement in ET have you seen with temp increase?

I use few tricks to control engine heat when running injection.Like I would run anything else. Have a setup that allows me to richen combo .010 with solenoid. Cools engine quick. Pretty sure everyone has used shutoff to raise temp if needed. Have any tricks care to share? Normally heat is not issue near as much as building it is.
