Construction has begun on my new 205" Ken Keir built FED. I'll post new pics when available.
-
I will watch with great interest.
-
More pics....
-
Wow, super nice work. I'll be looking forward to seeing more.
-
looks good , wheres this guys shop ? never heard of him
-
Ken Keir has been building winning cars (especially Comp Eliminator cars) for a long time. Is this dragster a Comp car?
-
Ken Keir is in Owings, Maryland. Very innovative builder, built David Rampy's World Champion Altereds and held national records himself. This car is built with a comp mindset, but will be raced in brackets with a high horsepower small block chevy comp type engine.
-
And thats the reason for R&P steering and Tri-pod front end?
Make sure you check out the M/W axles I have for sale in the classifieds
-
Car looks great!
-
Yes R&P and will check out axles for sure!
-
I have seen some of the Comp cars that he has built . Looks nice .
-
Ken's cars are always detail oriented and well thought out.
-
Car will be coming off the jig soon for final welding, then body panels are next...
-
A few more weeks till completion...Just got 6.0 cert.
-
looks good so far, good luck on the build. can't wait to see more pics

Going to run the Back Seat Drivers and N.E.T.O schedules and any specialty events I can find. Any info would be helpful! Thanks.

You may also want to plan for the New England Hot Rod Reunion in September. There they will run a 7.0 and a 7.50 class. Car looks trick!

Thnaks Glenn, really appreciate it!
-
Getting very close to finished...body panels and fuel system today....
-
What do you plan on using for a power plant ? I like the rack and pinion steering ! Never seen one on an FED!
-
My engine builder is Bob Kaiser who builds mostly high end V6 Comp stuff. He's finishing a naturally aspirated 422" SBC that's making 860HP on the dyno on Sunoco 112. We'll see how fast it goes?
-
Sounds like your car should be real quick . Bob Kaiser builds some really quick Comp motors !
-
we'll see, I'll keep you posted. Every time I speak with Bob I learn something new, he has a lot of great racing stories.
-
Car looks good: What about the faces rubbed out with a Sharpie?
The Names Have Been Changed To Protect The Innocent? ;D

Chassis work all done!!! Now the fun begins....
-
proriv63 - attention to detail is gorgeous, enjoyed seeing your pictures. DF
-
Thanks DF, I know Ken really pays attention to the little things. I'll keep you posted as it is being assembled. Still trying to decide on color combinations? Cars with same color chassis and body look kinda cool.
-
Looks like an "Angry Dart"!
-
That may be a great name for the car! Thanks... PS your digger very cool

I agree but I can tell you painters get pissed off when you get them to paint your chassis with a tri-coat paint
-
Painting a dragster chassis is no fun at all . I use a touch up gun to do mine and you don't waste as much paint . A self etching primer and a single stage urathane works well .
-
proriv63 - yes, color combinations just as much an individual thing as selecting engine and engine components. I’m sure you been looking at pictures to help your decisions, and going to carshow where there are lots of dragsters on display helps too. Maybe you’ve already gone to the dragster museum in Ocala, I went last summer. If you go to the museum, there’s lot on display (obviously vintage fed style, not so modern), however, many color combinations and styles to compare, full size too, better than pictures. One way it might help you at museum, is after you view the color combinations there, will guide your decision in what doesn’t appeal to you, and you can close the door on those. Knowing what you don’t like assists you to focus on what you do like in round-about way. Your friend Ken can probably share/confirm with you, a lighter color chassis may show off the superior quality, fit and finish of your chassis and components compared to a darker color which doesn’t reflect light the same way. You’ll probably put a smile on Ken’s face if you select a light color… DF
-
DF - Thanks for taking the time to empart your wisdom...that really helps my selection process. I'll keep you posted as I narrow the combinations. Stay tuned...
-
That may be a great name for the car! Thanks... PS your digger very cool
Ha! You can use the name. I'd be honored to say that I named your car. Keep up the good work...
-
I just may do that DF. Picked up dragster yesterday (weather was 50 degress) in Philly! Ken Keir did an outstanding job on design and craftsmenship. Highly recommend, I know he is starting a base car now... if anyone interested in new car. Pics are in my trailer when car arrived home.

Getting closer.
-
Finally got engine back and in car...off to Ken Keir's for custom headers...stay tuned!
-
Car is coming along very nice ! What are you going to use for a header collector or zoomie?
-
Trying to come up with a "slicker" looking zoomie. We'll see what Ken comes up with. Are you going with Bill to the E-Town points race next week?
-
Yes I am . I will be helping Billy with his comp car and my son with his Top Dragster .
-
Car looks great! Has a real Comp Eliminator vibe to it.
-
Zoomies look the best, but collectors will give you better power.
Our zoomies are aimed at the top of the slicks. Action-reaction theory.

Very Nice!
-
And the totals are in....car weighs 1235lbs less water in block and driver....not bad
-
That's not bad at all. Now you'll just need to work at getting the F/R weight correct. Is that an aluminum head/cast iron motor?
-
Yes, aluminum head and rocket block...
-
"F/R weight"
Not saying it's wrong, but that motor is "OUT THERE". I don't think I've ever seen a cowling as long as that. Especially relative to wheelbase. But I'm sure you and Ken know what you're doing. Thanks for the pictures and updates, let's see some VIDEO!
-
John will you be going to the Dutch Classic at Maple grove ? i will be there with Billy and I will be running my car also in Top Dragster . My son is racing his car in Top Dragster as well . If you are there come over and say hello . As far as weight go's you will just have to wait and see what the car wants . I have 24 lbs in the front of mine and it still carries the front wheels . My converter stalls at 8200 but I get my best 60 ft's leaving around 4200 . Hope to see you at the Dutch ! Bill
-
Hey Bill,
I'll be at the National Event and the Dutch...will stop over to see you for sure.

The car looks great ! Good luck next weekend !
-
Thanks Bill...we'll see what happens...down headers worked out great. Do you have yours reassembled yet? Can't wait to see you crack Top Dragster again!
-
I'm a little behind this year but I will be out soon ! Keep in touch .
-
Finally got car out today at Maple Grove (Reading) got two time runs during regular bracket program. First pass "Check out pass" 8.17 / 132 dumping at 1000'. Car hard on the wheelie bar...even with motor out that far...made bar adjustment. Second pass 7.645 / 174.87. Lost .02 in 60' raising wheelie bar? 6.0 lbs in 2585's on 12" rim. Two-Step at 4200. I think it has more in there...need to fine tune a few things. Video to follow.
-
Very nice. Keep the info coming.
-
Nice job! You're off to a great start.
-
Great job ! When you said how much hp it made on the dyno I knew it was going to be quick ! you have to be very pleased with that !
-
So far so good...I think I found one of the problems last night...I had an 8000RPM race "chip" in MSD, car flattened out the last 200 feet, I think I was on the chip that distance. Didn't look at tach, but calculations say engine was at 8500 or so.
