Roo Man's Room / Re: Older fed
« on: August 10, 2017, 06:25:10 PM »
A sticker didn't mean anything to the car we bought 7 years ago. The NHRA certification sticker in the FED was 3 years old. I called NHRA and got nothing on record. If a certification isn't current it is not a stored record is what I was told. So we took  the chassis to a NHRA inspector who was in St. Louis at the time to find out the chassis wouldn't certify to anything. So from my experience if the chassis certification is not current it would be a good move to make a deal with the seller to get it done and then make the deal. George

I have experienced the same on a very similar setup. I prime the oil system and fire it. Oil pressure comes right up.

I have an alloy Mopar 8 3/4" housing. I expect is quite old. It broke and was replaced by an iron unit several years ago. It is stamped above the fill plug 61400 and 4661/ 2380. The 2380 may be 2390 as the stamp isn't quite complete. I would appreciate any information. Thank you. George

Trans Specialties has been good for our SBC blower combination. It has been quick and consistent.

I ran water and block heaters to warm the engine with the stock block injected SBC and worked very well.  Today I run no water with the blown alky setup.

A NHRA or IHRA rule book would be a good place to help answer your questions. There are so many items and issues to cover a simple reply wouldn't get it covered.

We run a 223" car . It started as a 600hp injected SBC and now run a blower setup that has maybe 1000hp. I moved all the weight as far forward as possible. The battery is in the nose , 3 gallon fuel tank  and 2-10# fire bottles are all out front now.  I wouldn't suggest running without a wheelie bar. You can see in the picture even a long wheelbase car can carry the wheels.

We run a similar setup with a 31" tire.  The 1.80 in a Reid case is where we started. The 1.80 was too aggressive. The 1.69 has worked well.

Here is some video that you can slow down to see the car work:

Our sweet spot is 7psi. I will sometimes take it a bit lower when I think we need more traction. Our combo is 1700 lbs. and maybe 1000hp.

A video here . We are the red FED . The run @ 4 minutes slowed to the .25 video speed shows plenty of wheel speed.
