Wanted to buy / after market PG case cert not important
« on: June 22, 2014, 04:11:45 PM »
Looking for aftermarket case for power glide build. Looking for good shape and good price.Ried or ATI and ATI 2 piece prefered so I can change bell later. Most tracks around here never check anything but diaper and that you have money, don't messup the track and give us cash.I will take care of recerting case and or bell later.

« on: June 22, 2014, 12:14:17 PM »
Question for guys with good amount of experiance with FED's.What would you say has biggest influance on consistent running fed. Needless to say dead consistent engine and reliable drivetrain, looking for anything else I might want to look at. Hopefully chassis will not be doing anything stupid causing issue if so its all on the builder, crap thats me.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: weight differance of ultra lite guages
« on: June 08, 2014, 01:52:20 PM »
No not running JF. Not worried about ounces ,worried about pounds they are made up  with 16 ounces. I do not plan to bolt any wieght on. I will rework ad move weight how ever its needed. I like to be super light every where then I have option of moving the weight thats movable.Battery in nose, fuel tank just behind axle. Never heard anyone say dang my car is too lite! nitrous bottle and firebottle will both be easily moved.

Onces are just like anything else they add up. I spent cpl hundred bucks removing few pounds off axles,4 hours machining calipers for 2- 1/2 pounds. Getting ready to machine a aluminum valve body because its 8 lbs lighter and will not cost me 500 bucks. Not buying JW trans case because its 8 lbs heavier. Why spend same money and add half pound I can avoid?Every 100 =.100 so 20=.02.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: How to properly launch a FED?
« on: June 08, 2014, 01:43:59 PM »
I have been following this thread. Hoping to see few comments that said as hard as you can. I have always been aggressive type racer.Don't like to leave anything on the table performance wise and always attack the first half of track extra hard. Gee wonder why I choose SN WIDEOPEN? I have always likesd to see  a good rotation and not deadhook on the tire. With blower cars we would be a hair short of smoking the tire, but also had best 60' times and real strong half track and I figure last half is al about power and first half moslty power management.

With less motor it may not workout as well to be as agressive.I will keep checking to see what the guys with FED running experiance have to say.

I am assuming you have been over the whole car and looked for craked welds? Spool are all spline in good shape? About everytime I have had a car launch to one side or other more than once I found something broken Or had let someone work on chassis that caused it to bind up and act stupid, long story lots of cussing.
]Went from DNQ to number 2 (4th qualify round)on early shutoff after cutting 2 bars that we had been told was new rule. Before cutting the car acted like it was on crack, jumping all over the place. Just throwing thoughts out there since most other have been hit upon.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Ground clearance and tire height
« on: May 31, 2014, 01:54:45 PM »
Been wondering if I have enough clearance myself. I have 3.5 at front and 3 at motor plate. Thats with 32 tire ,block, crank heads, intake and me. Add 120 for trans and maybe 120 for pistons, rods cam and misc. I Konw I will be legal but also not looking to drag frame in shut down if get bounce going on. Hopefully tire growth will add enough to help there.

Great post. I was thinking about same thing, motor 50 out. Trans style still open.Thats my next big ticket item.  leaving it out works for me one less piece means even less weight.

Yea Bill I was going to go the aluminum spindle route. Found deal on wheels and spindles 275.00 with the tires. I figure to swap them later on. Heck would believe that Parks told me that for bracket car the steel would be better.Yea Mr super lite himself. Guess he figured we race in corn fields around here.LOL

Think I'll go with the aluminum steering amrs and update spindles later. Right now it looks like car will come in  well under 1600# with me in it ,so with extra cubes I might get to where I can be fast like you. Almost one cube per pound now that I think about it. Hemi may have aluminum block but billet heads, rocker shafts 22# and 4.5 crank make up for that little savings quick. Going to do some machine work on block in week or so.MAybe 5 or so pounds there to be removed ,Billet heads are worth some looking at also.

Friends think Im nuts when I get happy about removing cpl pounds from car. Civilians just don't get .

DREracer I would have to disassemble front end for pics right now and with my shop that means pulling front end out of corners of garage, but then same deal when I pull rearend, except its  diaganol corner.Might get some later in week.

Roo Man's Room / aluminum lower steering arms A-Arm setup
« on: May 21, 2014, 02:19:53 PM »
Thinking about going with aluminum lower steering arms.Wondering if anyone on site is running them.I know Parks sales them as does M-W. Figure if they where as questionable as some think(other sites most RED folks) they would not sale them. I have moly one for the upper arm and its pocket milled but still heavier and figure it gets more abuse. Yea I know Parks sales a titaniuym one also, later on maybe.

When I sat the a-arms for FED I was in very confined area(nothing new). I was just checking things the other day and found that right one was 1 degree less than left 18/17. Checked 3 times.  I doubt it will have much effect but figure asking could not hurt. I would hat to remake the a-arms but hect why should they be different than most things here lately?

Thanks 225,

I had a commercial building we ordered and got screwed out of by the company.United Steel building's total scam. I had a 5000 sq ft shop with 1200 sq ft apartment designed into the top of it with offices up front for business. Thanks for reminiding me about that $17,500 hole in my back side.Ended up loosing the lot and all in the end.  Agree about awsome part and by the way I hate you.LOL
