Roo Man's Room / Re: Building New FED 170" Need a little help
« on: August 14, 2017, 08:11:55 PM »
I have to figure out a way to post pictures on this site, when I try it says that the pictures are too big. Is there a free software to reduce the size or a way to do that other wise.
Scott,
There are several websites that resize pictures (single or batch) for free. Just Google: online picture resizer

Options include:
http://www.picresize.com/
http://resizeimage.net/
http://imageresize.org/

Jon's Wheel House / Re: Ball bearings?
« on: August 09, 2017, 05:01:31 PM »
Good advice, Bruce, but Tony make sure you have Anglia spindles, if early Ford spindles the hubs might be set-up for tapered bearings.
Hayden Wheels uses sealed ball bearings because of less rolling resistance, lighter weight, and cost. I have sold ball bearing Hayden wheels to A/F cars and they run up to 230 mph, with no problem.
Another thing is we have used nylock nuts on the spindles for 20 years, because, like Bruce pointed out,  the castle nut a lot of times does not line-up with the cotter pin hole with out it being too tight or too loose. The nylock, or locking nut you can adjust it to a perfect position, a little movement back and forth on the spindle.

Cheers, Jon, 805-444-4489, cell

Great input as always Jon... question about nylock nuts.... it's one time use only, right?

Well in the time trials we went to slow, then to fast, then to slow and in the first round of eliminations went to FAST, 7.89, well at least we did not break anything. Disappointing.
That's while I'm fan of heads-up: faster is always better than fast

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Hilborn stack idle problems
« on: July 17, 2017, 10:03:30 AM »
I'd disconnect the spark plug cables, one by one, trying to identify if there's one cylinder contributing more than the others for this elevated low idle. That could help, for example, to catch a vacuum leak between intake manifold and cylinder heads.

I don't think that it will work very well where you have it mounted ! You could use the normal drive off of the cam like Ricardo's picture or if you want to run it off of a belt you can mount it low and modify your existing bracket . Ron's Fuel injection makes a bracket to mount your pump . Here are a couple of pictures of mine . i hope this helps you out .
Really tricky setup Bill, nice!

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Building Zoomies
« on: June 20, 2017, 09:06:18 PM »
Here is a set I fab'd up about a year and a half ago, used 1.750  mandrel u-bends from speedway with 3/8" thick flange plates. did each pipe  in 2 pieces in order to change direction & get the angle I liked then tig'd them up. my rail is 1959 so I was going for a more period look rather than a zoomie.
here is a progression of headers on my rail, 1st pic was early 90's with long swept out weed burners, next I borrowed a set of up swept zoomies from a buddies mid 60's C/D, then I built the set I put on recently.
That's a real beauty!

Even heated, does it need to pack the tubes with sand to avoid crushing?

NO, thats why you heat up a 6" section and make it a gradual bend.
Thanks Bruce!

Like I said before,  if the swap made any significant gains and all the racer had to do was swap 2 wires, why would the cam grinder offer any other verson??? Isnt the purpose of a cam grinder is to make a better product.
Well Bruce, I have a different perspective here. They can charge extra $ for the 4-7 swap. Basically the same reason why McDonald's offers hamburgers and cheeseburgers.
Gosh, what have I done...  ::)
Bruce, Lactaid pills help!

Dean, I'd suggest you calling Canton. And if you could, sharing their recommendation here.
