Title: Oil Pan Heaters
Post by: spitzerscott on March 14, 2020, 08:31:15 AM
We just got one of the Jeg's self adhesive pad oil pan heaters, it is 400watt.  Have any of you used these, and how long will it take to bring 8 quarts of oil up to temp?

My 8qt pan takes about 20 minutes but I have the heating element in the oil.

I used block heaters in the water jackets as well as a immersion type 400 watt heater. Heads and block were water filled. It makes for a good pre start warmup.

Steve, i've been known to have catastrophic oil pan failure before.  I wouldn't make a run without a diaper.

Thanks.  next time the pan is off, i'll have a bung installed for an immersion heater. I don't want to have to drop the diaper each day.  I appreciate the info.

Greg......I know you do!!!!   It was a general answer.... You will love the emersion. After we get home from a race aI will pull the valve covers and leave it plugged in for a couple of days to evaporate any alky left.

We do have an insulated pad between the heating pad and the absorbing pad that will take 450F continues and 1100F surge.

Do you have a manufacturer or part number of what you're using?
Thanks

Mark, just a cheap pad from Jeg's,  Pt.  # 555-32032.   Ran it 8 minutes last weekend with no problems.
