Title: New to the site and saying, Hello !
Post by: bfalfa55 on March 26, 2016, 07:42:40 PM
I didn't see an INTRODUCTION Thread, so I will say HELLO here and hopefully not make anybody mad ! I am a Nostalgia Drag Racing Nut with a 55 Chevy, non-straight axle, GAS COUPE AND SEDAN inspired car. I will expound more on my HEAP of a car but am glad I was accepted here first  as long as I have not offended anyone with my first message ! Thanks for the add !

This is as good as any place to introduce yourself.
Hi and welcome. please Post pics of your 55  and post more info about it. The Gasser section is just starting to have some action.
 Van
PS always remember Glenn wants this to be a family type board, so clean language here.

Well I resized some pics. My 55 is using many parts from my dads car in high school. I actually have the original 265 from his car drom 196-. It is running a mild 350, Super T-10, 3.70 rear. Best time with a non-hole shot launch, 14.06 @ 97 MPH. Plans are in the works to build a 56 265 with a modern roller cam, dome pistons and L98 aluminum heads. And as the picture shows, I may make it with a scratch built adapted Eaton M112. I may just go with a different small blower setup but I don't have much in this blower.

Does your 55 need to be streetable? I sure would  consider putting the 265 under the bench for safe keeping and building the 350. 85 extra cubes will help. A stack injected 355 in a gasser will "Haul the mail" !! :D Just my 2 cents. Welcome to Front Engine Dragsters. Glen's got a great site here.

Yeah this car I want to be streetable. We may build something race only in the future. The 265 is for the "dare to be different' part of me. Trying to be a bit Nostalgic but still use more modern parts to see how well it will run. A large amount of work was done to this 265, fully balanced, decked, align bored, According to the build info., it is good for 10,000 RPM. I won't be any place close to that.

I look forward to being part of the site. I sent a link to it for a friend of mine who is rebuilding his dad's old Alcohol Funny Cars fro the late 70's and he is also building an FED that is planned to be running for this season.

Welcome to the sight Bob Falfa!  8) Still looking for the yellow Deuce?   Nothing wrong with a 265.  We used to have a guy at my local track back in the 70s that ran a 265 powered 55 Chevy in Super Stock.  He would leave the line at 10,500 and shift it there after at 10-5 hanging the front hoops in each gear!   As you said, your probably not gonna hit those high RPMs but let it rip and have fun!

Thanks Mr. Froggy. It should be a fun build and fun to drive. When it gets warmer here, I will get to work and keep posting updates,

Here is a car pic. I will have to resize some more. Little story about the not finished, cobbled paint job. We used the front end of my car painted this way as a prop for my sons high school play rendition of "GREASE" a few years ago.

Yes they are 15 x 8.5's. This picture is with bent leaf springs so the rear is up a little higher. I may add some lowering blocks to get this same look again. but for now I am just having fun driving it.

Glad your having fun, that's the main thing.  15 x 8 Dragmasters are cool!   Every Dragmaster I've ever found is a 14 x 6.  Now I'm jealous   :-[

I know they are not easy to find, I got lucky for the price I paid. The Rader's are 15 x 6's. They were given to me by a friends dad. The steel part was all rust, I blasted and painted them. My car is no show piece, but it looks fine from behind the steering wheel !

That's one nice thing about old Radars, you can paint the hoops to look like unpolished aluminum if there rusty.  Your car looks good! A cool looking, fun ride is way better than a credit card show queen.

Thanks. And I am proud that I built my own jalopy. I just have to get the Raders back from my friend. New rear tires for te Dragmasters, then building the new engine needs to get going.

You know I keep thinking your crazy to build a hot 265 for a period style engine..... I think you should build a .125 over 283 make a 301"!!😜 No know we all are a little crazy though lol

I look at it this way: This short block was never fired and has a lot of machining work and balancing time in it. I only paid $400 for it. All the other components I put on it or in it, can be put in any other small block if I really want or need to. I know there is no end to how fast you can go (and spend money to do it), I am just interested in seeing it's potential. When I see Super Stock Tri Fives running mid 11's and low 12's under the tight rules they have, making a fun, good running, streetable 265 is that much more fun to me.
