Wanted to buy / Re: I need SBC dragster headers
« on: March 26, 2013, 01:26:44 PM »
Thanks guys, I found a set. But I wish I would have bought from 225digger. I got a set of Hedman Hedders upswept that were actually advertized as Hooker super competition. I paid $150 for the headers then ended up needing a $130 adapter. I like zoomies better.

I was told when I got my FED chassis that it was a 69' model. I worried then if it would certify. It only had to have kidney bars added to certify. I was actually trying to get a nostalgia funnycar when I traded for my FED. Found the funnycars to be really high priced and  uncertifiable. Took the FED and away we go.
As stated before, be careful as others will dump their problem child on you. Look for the cert when shopping.

Roo Man's Room / Steering rod type question
« on: February 27, 2013, 06:49:19 AM »
I had my car in the chassis shop a while back and the shop had a small fire right next to my car. Shop owner didn't tell me about it and I didn't visit the shop for a couple of months. He used something corrosive (fire extinguisher) to douse the fire. When I went by there, needless to say I was kinda pissed because it has started damaging the chrome steering rods and chassis started rusting.
Took it home, took it apart and wire wheeled everything. I can't afford to re-chrome right now so everything just got a coat of paint to slow/stop rust.
Now to the questions. I removed the front steering. The front end has some spring inside the front tube. The right (passenger) side inside the tube must have sprung and doesn't line up with the other side and a cross steering tube now hits and locks when I turn the steering to the right. How do I correct whatever I have done? The connection has what appears to be an octaganal fitting inside the front tube. When I set it here its too high and set it there way its too low. I find a single hole directly in the bottom center I assume with an allen wrench fitting? Is this where I set this up? I know this probably won't be much help but neither am I.
HELP

Altereds / Re: Old 70s funny car turned alterd
« on: February 07, 2013, 07:10:50 AM »
I was actually trying to do the nostalgia funnycar thing when I got the FED I own now. I wanted the funnycar and altered body for use in different events. I seemingly came along too late as prices for the old stuff went through the roof, and for a chassis that might not recertify. I got the FED instead.
The altered in your pic is fabulous. I would love to have it or one just like it.

Last november I was at Don Garlits museum. He told me that FED's were never designed to hook up. Them old slicks did just fine. LOL

Randy'
I haven't started the engine since building. Sent the car to the chassis shop, spent 4 years there. Brought it home and built the engine and transmission and then off to another shop. Ordered parts, tubing etc and it sat there for another year. I went last summer and brought it to where the pic was taken. Hasn't moved since.
The guys I got the set up from were using it on their car and were running 7.7's but they run big % nitro but with a 331 SBF (I think). Those guys tried to help me get this thing up and running but they were so far over my head and abilities, it wasn't even funny.
Steve (Lippy) and Leon Lippoldt from Kansas. These guys are big time, at least I think so. They go to March Meet etc and run with the nitro guys.
I live in Perry, Ga  About 90 miles east of Columbus.

Mule,
Yes, it is the 302 tunnelram with the spacers for 351W. I got it from someguys in Kansas. Leon and Steve (Lippy) Lippolt (sp?). They had used it and were running nitro too. They were in the 7,70's range et wise.  Donnie Holbrook (RIP) set up my fuel system for me.

Hi Guys,
Dixie Classic Funnycars and Fuelish friends is defunct. After Don Gatleff died, so did the group. I was gonna be one of those "fuelish friends" but oh well.

I asked how much wheelie bar I would need talking to Virgil Hartman? His reply was  "Only candyasses have wheelie bars". I guess that makes me a candyass.
That was cool though.
