What are the opinions on Oil Filters for an alcohol motor?
OEM paper or after-market stainless steel screen
Single or double filters?
-
I use an Oberg, easy to inspect, access and clean. NA injected alcohol/nitro
Mark
-
x's2 oberg.Always ran them since first injected motor in 86.Ran them on Top Alcohol cars and FED already has one mounted on it.
-
Oberg filters are well worth the investment. We have them on all our cars (blown on alcohol) and plumb them out of the pan and into the reservoir tank.
Single filter, I want to say 60 microns. Oil is Brad Penn SAE 50.
-
Single paper on original SBC mount, bought a filter cutter and inspect element inside.
Liteweight, never pop/leak a line, inexpensive
-
Also...Peterson Fluid Systems makes some nice in-line filters
-
On my blown alky Ford dragster = System 1 = Just screw it onto the block, no hoses. Run the course screen for 50 & over, fine for lighter oil. I use the long for max area.
-
A System One. Remote mount just outside of the DRE engine containment.
-
I run WIX race filters--cutting is a PIA so I always just look at oil when valve covers are off--you will see it there as good as cutting filter If you see glitter it is too late anyway right? A Case of the race filters is about half price on Ebay with free shipping and no sales tax--buying them local is just silly.

I have a remote System 1, I like it a lot.

and yes I have a belt guard (not pictured) to protect the lines.

System 1, checked every event or when oil pressure does something stupid.
-
Little pricey,but very nice.

Glenn, does your frame rail cross right in front of the oil filter mount holes? I'm A newbie and running a Pontiac also.

Sorry I missed you post. Yes it does, I use an old Mickey Thompson remote oil filter adapter to turn the ports on the side of the engine 90 degrees and run AN lines to the filter.
There is VERY little space between the adapter and the upper rail. I'm not sure that even 90 degree AN fittings would work.
On the new engine I have a machined block that does the same thing
